Job Summary We are a high-end restaurant opening in the heart of downtown Toronto, dedicated to delivering an exceptional dining experience. With a focus on culinary excellence, we are seeking an experienced Head Sommelier to curate an outstanding wine program, develop pairings, and elevate our guests' experience through expert guidance and engaging presentations.
Wine Program Development: Curate and manage an extensive wine list featuring premium selections from Canada, Europe, and beyond.
- Menu Pairing: Collaborate with the executive chef to develop perfect wine pairings for seasonal menus and tasting experiences.
- Provide personalized recommendations, lead tableside wine service, and educate guests on wine selections.
- Training & Leadership: Train and mentor staff on wine knowledge, service techniques, and food pairing principles.
- Public Speaking & Events: Represent the restaurant at wine tastings, industry events, and exclusive guest experiences.
- Supplier & Inventory Management: Build strong relationships with distributors, negotiate pricing, and oversee wine inventory control.
- Industry Engagement: Stay up-to-date with global wine trends, participate in industry competitions, and continuously refine the restaurant's wine offerings.
Certified Sommelier (WSET Level 3+, CMS, or equivalent)
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in a fine dining or Michelin-level restaurant
- Extensive knowledge of Old and New World wines, with a focus on European and Canadian selections
- Strong public speaking skills and experience leading wine tastings or educational sessions
- Passion for hospitality, exceptional service standards, and the ability to create memorable guest experiences
- Strong relationships within the wine industry and familiarity with top suppliers
