Shift Nurse - RN (Full-Time)

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Medical services at the QEUH for a highly motivated Charge Nurse to provide leadership and ensure that high quality, safe, effective, person centred care in one of our Acute Respiratory wards, which specialises in Cystic Fibrosis and Pulmonary Hypertension. On a daily basis you will be expected to lead the wider team supporting effective care planning and safe discharge. You will ensure appropriate learning opportunities are available for all staff, encouraging best practice to deliver a high quality of patient care at all times in line with NHS GGC Care Assurance Standards. You will be responsible to the Senior Charge Nurse for clinical guidance & professional management. As Charge Nurse the candidate will have responsibility for the management of the ward and delivery of care assurance standards in the absence of the Senior Charge Nurse. Evidence of personal development will be expected with a willingness to contribute to education and audit at ward level. A good understanding and knowledge of policy, procedures and local/national priorities will be required to support the team.

These are permanent, full-time posts of 36 hours per week.

This post is based at Ward 7D, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

The shift pattern is Monday to Sunday, shift work.

Assist in the support and management of nursing staff within the ward/department ensuring that patient needs are assessed, care planned, implemented and evaluated, and that there is consultation and involvement of patient/carers/relatives.

Support the ward sister / charge nurse to exercise effective management of the ward/department, optimising the use of human resources, and rostering to reflect activity requirements.

Adhere to the organisation’s standing financial instructions o Provide leadership, guidance and support to staff and assist the ward sister / charge nurse in his / her responsibility for ensuring their supervision, training and education.

Be responsible for the supervision of junior staff and assist with the clinical teaching of student nurses, qualified nurses and post-registration nurses undergoing specialised qualification.

Consult with medical staff in identifying and solving problems in patient care.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

Registered Nurses on the NMC Register (Part 1 & 12)
