Hardware Design Engineers who are passionate about solving real-world challenges in consumer electronics, working on either the Products Team or the Biosensors Team.
As a member of the Products Team, you will drive the end-to-end electrical and system design of next-generation consumer fitness devices. You will be responsible for the full product lifecycle – transitioning concepts into shippable hardware through design, validation, and manufacturing support. You will collaborate closely with other engineering disciplines to ensure the hardware meets performance and quality standards while adhering to a consumer electronics schedule.
As a member of the Biosensors Team, you will assist in the design and validation of various sensing electronics to measure industry leading biometrics such as wrist based optical heart rate, SpO2 and Electrocardiogram (ECG) for medically regulated A-Fib detection. This team’s work is currently in over 75 wearables providing essential features for Garmin’s customers while also pushing the boundaries on size, power and cost. You will work directly with others across Garmin’s product segments, including Fitness and Outdoor, and be responsible for creating, productizing and maintaining new technologies for consumer products.
Perform as a technical leader or Project Engineer for either consumer products or biosensor platform integrations into wearables, following established procedures
Design printed circuit boards to meet product requirements
Source and analyze appropriate components to meet electrical engineering design needs
Test electrical circuits and document the test results
Proficiently use troubleshooting and general EE tools (e.g. multimeters, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, schematic design and PCB layout programs, etc.)
Find technical root cause and suggest corrective action for given problems
Work with other engineering teams to ensure robust designs and appropriate testability
Work with the factory team to understand design impacts on manufacturability
Develop rigorous test plans to evaluate hardware solutions including analysis and documentation of all test results
Estimate level of effort, evaluate new options of similar technology, offer suggestions to improve processes, and provide comments and suggestions on some electrical design aspects in design reviews
Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering with 1-2 years’ relevant hardware design experience and a cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0
Demonstrated ability with application of design standards and procedures to develop moderately complex analog and digital designs including corresponding PCB layouts.
Demonstrated ability with electrical engineering tools (multimeters, oscilloscopes, simulation tools, schematic capture / PCB layout tools, etc.)
Demonstrated knowledge of design impacts on manufacturability
Eligible for registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (P.Experience trouble-shooting complex design and validation problems
Experience with balancing tasks across multiple development projects
