The occupant of this position looks to create and promote an organizational culture of employee and workplace safety. Reporting to the Construction Manager the candidate will direct matters related to occupational health and safety law including; develop initiatives in collaboration with others that are aimed at raising safety awareness; develop health and safety programs; conduct health and safety assessments, conduct follow-up investigations to accidents and incidents; and develop/deliver training programs and assist with managing the company tools and asset program when necessary.
Conducts job site inspections, incident investigations, toolbox talks, hazard assessments
Oversees the development, implementation and evaluation of the Health and Safety Program
Promotes company safety culture
Works with various departments, general contractors and subcontractors to ensure compliance with the company’s, General Contractors’, federal and local safety regulations and programs.
Provides OH&S training, mobile equipment trainings and fit testing to staff (subject to TTT certification)
Maintains company and employee safety records and assisting with identification of trends and/or areas for improvement
Manages the Safety supplies, including PPE and FA equipment & supplies, throughout the company’s work sites
Participates in safety committees, manages Foreperson & Lead Hand meetings
Administers First Aid for office, fabrication shop, and on jobsites as needed.
Prepares Site Safety Plans, Hazard Assessments, and First Aid Assessments
Valid Occupational First Aid (min. Level 2) certificate
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Health & Safety
- Strong commitment to occupational health and safety, and organizational safety culture
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety; Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with Digital Safety Programs is an asset
- Good attendance and performance record
- Class 5 Driver’s License and personal vehicle; Toolbox Talks/ site visits will need to start when the sites open, and therefore the start time for this position can be as early as 6:00am.
