AECOM is currently seeking candidates for Archaeology Field Technician positions (Levels 1 – 4) , based out of our offices in London, Barrie, Peterborough, Sault Ste. These are unionized positions under the collective agreement with LiUNA.
Technicians will support archaeological fieldwork (Stages 2–4) under the guidance of a Field Supervisor, including artifact recovery, field documentation, and assisting with team leadership and training. Travel across Ontario and working in all weather conditions will be required.
Conduct archaeological field work under the guidance of a field supervisor.
Identify and recover Indigenous and Euro-Canadian artifacts
Travel extensively across Ontario for extended periods.
Take on a junior leadership role during field operations.
Assist the Field Supervisor with technical aspects of field work.
Contribute to the training of new team members.
Set an example for teammates and undertake additional tasks as assigned by field supervisors or management.
High school diploma
For level II + roles, previous relevant work experience is required
Communicate information, issues, concerns related to the site work in an effective and professional manner to Field Supervisor.
Reliable transportation to and from assigned office or designated project meet spot is essential.
Sensitivity and awareness combined with a respectful attitude towards Indigenous culture and people is a must.
Bachelor’s degree in archaeology or anthropology.
Proven ability to recognize cultural material and collect in a controlled manner.
Proven physical ability and care when conducting excavations.
Demonstrated ability to support Field Supervisor with technical aspects of archaeology & leading the team.

Under the Collective Agreement between AECOM and LiUNA, the compensation for Archaeology Field Technician I, II, III and IV at AECOM for the 2025 field season will be between $24.48 to $29.44.
Candidates may be hired as Archaeology Field Technician Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, or Level 4.
