Food Service Associate

Duration: Regular Full Time
The goal of the City of Burnaby and its employees is to consistently deliver first class service and services to our community. This is food service and routine clerical work in coordinating a food service operation in a municipal facility. Assists in the scheduling and plans, assigns, supervises, checks and participates in the work of a small group of volunteers engaged in preparing and selling meals, snacks and beverages and cleaning the food service area; A Food Services Worker will be responsible for ordering, receiving, and dispensing supplies; maintains inventory control; inspects equipment to ensure health standards and proper operation of mechanical equipment; Other responsibilities include, developing and maintaining standard recipe manuals for product, cost and portion control; implements changes concerning menu items, food prices, sales methods, food service operations and related matters. Qualifications include a Diploma in Food Services Technology or Certificate from a Community College in Cooks' training or a related field, plus some related experience i.e., Japanese cooking or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of health regulations and laws pertaining to the preparation, serving and sale of food and beverages in addition to the knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, procedures and equipment used in food service operations in a municipal facility. An incumbent will have sound knowledge of inventory control as related to the work; the types, prices, quantities and sources of commodities, food and beverages required by the food service facility. The ability to coordinate the operation of food service facilities; to accurately estimate the food, beverage, supplies and equipment requirements of food service operations. A Food Services Worker will have the ability to prepare and maintain a variety of records; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, salespeople and the public; Location: Mintara on Burnaby Mountain and other Food Services locations, as required.
Schedule: 70 hours bi-weekly; Work hours depend on operational requirements, typical hours are Wednesday to Sunday from 12:00PM - 8:00PM.
