As a key member of the interprofessional clinical team, the Physiotherapist is responsible for assessing, planning, and delivering evidence-based rehabilitation services that enhance residents’ mobility, function, and quality of life within a long-term care environment.

This role integrates both physiotherapy and occupational therapy principles, supporting residents in achieving optimal independence in physical function, mobility, activities of daily living (ADLs), and participation in meaningful routines.
The Physiotherapist provides clinical leadership, collaborates with therapy assistants and nursing staff, and contributes to care planning and quality improvement initiatives that align with SE Health’s mission of delivering holistic, person-centered care.
Flexible FTE (0.8–1.0)
Conduct comprehensive assessments of residents’ physical and functional abilities.
Develop individualized, goal-oriented rehabilitation and mobility plans in collaboration with the resident, family, and interdisciplinary team.
Incorporate occupational therapy principles such as adaptive equipment recommendations, seating and positioning assessments, environmental modifications, and ADL retraining to promote safety and independence.
Provide and document direct treatment, education, and supervision to therapy assistants implementing treatment plans.
Monitor resident progress, reassess as needed, and adjust interventions accordingly.
Support restorative and fall prevention programs, mobility maintenance, and transfer training.
Educate residents and families on exercise programs, equipment use, posture, joint protection, and home safety.
Provide coaching to caregivers and team members to ensure consistent support for resident goals.
Participate in care conferences, interdisciplinary rounds, and resident safety quality rounds.
Provide clinical input into care plans and ensure therapy goals are integrated with overall care objectives.
Collaborate closely with nursing, recreation, and dietary teams to promote holistic resident well-being.
Act as a resource for staff in safe handling, mobility techniques, and environmental adaptation.
Complete documentation in accordance with AHS Continuing Care Health Service Standards and SE Health clinical documentation policies.
Maintain accurate assessment records, treatment notes, and progress summaries in the electronic health record (PointClickCare).
Quality Improvement: (5%)
Contribute to quality and risk initiatives such as falls prevention, mobility audits, and safe lifting practices.
Participate in staff education, mentoring therapy assistants, and supporting interdisciplinary learning.
Stay current with research, clinical best practices, and evidence-informed rehabilitation models relevant to geriatric and long-term care.

Master’s degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university

  • Active registration and practice permit with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta
  • Recent clinical experience in long-term care, supportive living, or geriatric rehabilitation
  • Familiarity with occupational therapy domains of practice, including ADL retraining, adaptive equipment, and environmental assessments considered an asset
  • Competence in supervising therapy assistants
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector and Criminal Record Checks
  • Up-to-date immunization record
