Workshop Technician, Carpentry

Since 1949, TVCC has been working with children and youth to help them reach their full potential. Today, a wide range of services and supports are provided for young people with physical disabilities, communication disorders, developmental delays and autism spectrum disorders to support them in attaining the best available quality of life and health. In partnership with local and regional agencies, TVCC annually serves more than 11,000 children, youth and their families from birth to age 19 across Southwestern Ontario in over 700 locations. We are currently recruiting for a regular, full time (37.5 hours per week) Workshop Technician to fill a vacancy in Clinical and Technical Specialty Services. The designated office for this position is London.
This role is essential in helping clients, especially those with physical or communication challenges, gain greater independence and comfort through properly fitted and maintained seating equipment.

Building and customizing equipment, such as seating systems, in accordance with specifications provided by clinicians. Providing detailed drawings and specifications to contract manufacturers/vendors when custom equipment is needed
Managing workshop inventory and ensuring tools and parts are available and organized
Completing preventative maintenance for workshop machinery, tools and equipment to ensure safety
Routine tasks include scheduling appointments, research of products, tracking of supplies and inventory, as well as keeping the workshop tidy

College Diploma or Apprenticeship in carpentry, mechanical engineering technologist, trade focused training, or orthotics and prosthetics technician
Mechanical or technical aptitude
Working knowledge of wood/metal working machinery
Excellent creative and problem-solving skills, as well as strong attention to detail
Familiarity with various disabilities of clients served by TVCC and the impact of these disabilities on seating and other equipment needs
Basic operating knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
Knowledge of CAD, CNC machine operations considered an asset
