We are currently hiring a regular full-time Cochlear Implant Audiologist to join the Audiology Team at St. Pauls Hospital!

Pauls hosts the BC Adult Cochlear Implant Program the only adult cochlear implant centre in British Columbia. It provides the entire continuum of care: assessment surgery and long-term rehabilitation for adults with severe hearing loss who cannot benefit from hearing aids alone. Pauls Hospital in 1982!

The Cochlear Implant Audiologist (CI Audiologist):

Works with the Coordinator BC Adult Cochlear Implant Program and reporting to the Professional Practice Leader.

Reports findings consults with referring physicians and the Professional Practice Leader - Audiology regarding intervention options for individual patients.

The CI Audiologist provides information to team members and relevant community agencies regarding the continuum of service.

Consults reports advocates and liaises with community agencies. Develops educational/ training resources program planning and performs research activities as required.

Masters Degree in Audiology from a recognized program.

Minimum of two (2) years recent and relevant Post Masters clinical experience specifically providing cochlear implant audiology services including a minimum of one (1) year of extensive experience performing cochlear implant audiology services within an interdisciplinary team environment.

Current Registration as an Audiologist in the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of BC.

Current and maintained Advanced Competency Certification in Cochlear Implant Management from the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of BC.

Comprehensive knowledge of the field of audiology cochlear implantation current implant devices and technology and programming devices.

Comprehensive knowledge of audiology assessment (including complex cases) as it relates to cochlear implantation.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing using effective listening probing and counseling techniques.

Demonstrated ability to gather necessary information and explain technical information/results to individuals with varying levels of understanding.

Demonstrated ability to critically evaluate relevant scientific literature.

Demonstrated teaching skills to support audiology graduate student externships.

Ability to operate related equipment and software programs.

From hospital care to primary and community health solutions the new St. Pauls Hospital and health campus will continue to lead innovations in care research and teaching. Pauls Hospital is expected to open in 2027.

Competitive pay: $42.27 to $52.81 CAD per hour depending on experience.

Through the administration of an audiologic test battery uses current and evidence-based protocols to evaluate hearing status of referred patients or determine candidacy for cochlear implantation. Performs records and interprets individual test results and functional benefits from amplification including performing a range of test procedures to assess adequacy of amplification devices.

Administers and interprets comprehensive clinical assessments and tests (such as advanced electrophysiologic testing procedures including intra- and post-operative Neural Response Telemetry (NRT) electro Stapedial Reflex Testing (eSRT) and others).

Utilizes advanced knowledge and expertise in the area of electrical stimulation including speech coding strategies modes of stimulation and other electrical parameters needed to create listening programs for a map for a patients sound processor.

Provides cochlear implant technical support including patient/ caregiver orientation education and troubleshooting of cochlear implant related equipment.

The audiologists participation and opinion is fundamental in the determination of patient candidacy.

Provides patient and/or caregiver education support and counseling regarding expectations hearing status rehabilitation potential outcomes and cochlear implant issues and interprets test results relative to functional progress. Supports audiologists and other health care professionals by methods such as reviewing complex cases providing guidance and recommendations on audiologic care of patients with cochlear implants and educating audiologists other health care professionals and students as required.

Maintains and incorporates into practice up-to-date knowledge on research and best practices in the cochlear implant field globally specifically to audiological practice; relevant Health Canada Guidelines; Freedom of Privacy and Information Act and resources nationally and internationally in the field of cochlear implants.
