Title: Aboriginal Head Start Daycare Lead
Reports to: ECD Supervisor
Hours of Work: Between 8:30 am – 4:300 pm Monday through Friday
Term Position: Permanent Full-time as long as funding is secure
Salary: $50,960 annually with benefits after three months

Tansi Friendship Centre Society is looking for a dedicated Licensed Early Childhood Educator to join our team as the AHS Daycare Lead. The AHS Lead will be responsible for developing and delivering age-appropriate children’s programming designed to meet the spiritual, emotional, intellectual, and physical needs of a child that empowers individuals by providing culturally sensitive care and educational programming for the children.

Job Duties:

Provide cultural curriculum and educational programming for young children, in support of their spiritual, emotional, intellectual, and physical growth, consistent with philosophy and guidelines stated in policy and procedure manual and follows the AHS Principals and Guidelines.
Adhere to all policies and procedures as outlined in the TFCS Policy and Procedure manual and the AHS Daycare Manual
Present a positive and professional image of the organization during all interactions with outside agencies, staff, board of directors and community members.
Ability to work with Aboriginal families, willingness to share and participate in cultural activities and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Fostering of positive and constructive communication with parents daily.
Establish, develop, and maintain respectful, positive support and relationships with all children, families, and staff.
Has a clear understanding of wise practices relating to the development and care of children.
Best practices and culturally supportive tactics with the children during their day-to-day task
Carry out developmentally appropriate activities that foster social, physical, emotional, cognitive, and creative development.
Implementing both indoor and outdoor activities for young children including some family events and parent/elder luncheons.
Observe and record the development of the children
Ensure that all areas at the centre are clean, safe, and orderly
Keep current of all health and/or social issues, trends, research, and practices impacting children and their families.
Coordinate and maintain program though proactive planning, and AHS staff mentoring and support
Create and maintain good public relations within the programs and community
Maintaining confidentiality of all information related to the entre, the children and their families and all staff.
Ability to maintain secure client file systems and maintain confidentiality.
Always ensure safe and active supervision of children.
Promote a welcoming and nurturing environment.
Prepare observations and recordings for children and send reports to parents as needed
Provide monthly curriculum planning and delivery.
Prepare a quarterly report to the board of directors.
Consistently dependable for shifts, building solid routines with the team.
Attend all staff meetings and the Annual General Meeting.
Maintain a high level of confidentiality in all interactions
Maintain a professional image and demeanor with all employees, management and visitors at all times.
Assist with other duties as required.

Qualifications:

A Valid ECE Certificate or Diploma and License to Practice and/or ECE Certificate in BC
Demonstrated background in Early Childhood Development
Extensive knowledge of Indigenous culture, teachings and practices
Strong leadership skills that promote collaboration and learning.
Solid communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point)
Understanding of the Community Care Facilities Act and Licensing Regulations
A valid Child Care First Aid Certificate or willing to obtain
A clear Criminal Record Check for vulnerable persons
TB test clearance
Valid class 5 driver’s license.
