Welder/Fitter Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Welder/Fitter to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Outdoor welding at heights, in confined spaces and in awkward positions for extended periods of time;
- Mobilizing, inspecting, maintaining and demobilizing work areas, tools and required welding equipment;
- Fabricating, Assembling and Fitting Structural Steel;
- Organize, direct, control and evaluate the Metal Shop’s objectives and goals, as related to the overall company strategic plan;
- Ensure optimized workflow and work processes within the Fab Shop;
- Maintain a current understanding of the Shop estimating processes and procedures, current market pricing and other costing related information;
- Follow all Defined Designs Quality System procedures and policies;
- Participate in coordination of work between the various project teams and departments;
- Cut, grind, weld, read and interpret blueprints and sketches, create new blueprints as necessary;
- Establish and/or follow established administrative controls in relation to resources (material, human and financial);
- Actively engage in the promotion of the company;
- Complete required administrative tasks in a timely and accurate manner (e.g. time sheets, material requisitions;
- Follow all health and safety / personal protective equipment policies, regulations, and legislation.
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar management role;
- CWB Certification and or Welder Trade Certification;
- Family benefit package (as per defined Designs group plan);
- Must have knowledge of standard concepts, practices and procedures within the welding industry;
- Hours are 8am to 5pm, Mon-Fri, including a ½ hour paid lunch and a total of one hour is permitted for breaks during the work day;
- 11 days’ vacation time is permitted per calendar year with no carry-over time allotted;
- Should have minimum 3 years of custom fabrication fitting experience;
- Read and interpret welding blueprints, drawing specifications, structural drawings and welding symbols;
- High school diploma completed (or equivalence);
- 4% vacation pay will be added to the regular Salary;
- Practice safe work procedures and follow all health & safety regulations;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Days off, including sick days, grievance days and vacation days are not paid;
- Certified Forklift/Crane Operator would be an asset;
- 3 or more consecutive sick days must be accompanied with a doctor’s note.
