Our company is looking for a Cook 1 to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Follow kitchen policies, procedures and service standards;
  • Regulating temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, and roasters;
  • Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of all work areas, utensils, and equipment;
  • Helping to maintain constant cleanliness and proper sanitary condition of all food storage and kitchen areas, including the line and prep kitchens etc;
  • Prepare and service all food items for a la carte andor buffet menus according to hotel recipes and standards;
  • Follow all safety and sanitation policies when handling food and beverage;
  • Other duties as assigned;
  • Consistently offer professional, friendly and proactive guest service while supporting fellow Colleagues;
  • Maintaining accurate food logs; promptly and proactively communicating food quality or shortage issues with Sous Chef and/or Executive Chef;
  • Maintain proper rotation of product in all chillers to minimize wastage/spoilage;
  • Have full knowledge of all menu items, daily features and promotions;
  • Practicing correct food handling and food shortage procedures according to applicable local, provincial, and Company standards and regulations;
  • Preparing, maintaining and monitoring quality control for hot and cold food items including, but not limited to, meat, fish, fowl, sauces, stocks, sea;
  • Preparing food items according to recipes and quality standards, including special meals and/or substitute items;
  • Visually inspecting all food items from the kitchen prior to service. Performing additional duties, as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Must be familiar with breakfast cookery;
  • Red Seal certification;
  • Ability to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing up to 11.5 kilograms (25 pounds) without assistance;
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule to meet the business needs of a hotel environment, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays;
  • Legal Work Status: Must already possess necessary documentation to work legally in Canada;
  • Education: High School Diploma required;
  • Fully abreast with latest food trends;
  • Frequent bending, standing and walking for extended periods of time required;
  • Fluent English language skills; both written and verbal;
  • Exceptional ability to use sound logic and good judgment at all times within a high-pressure work environment;
  • Must be self directed, motivated and demonstrate exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills;
  • Food Safe certification required;
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced work environment;
  • Minimum of 1 year previous experience in a similar capacity, or 2 years previous experience as a Cook 2, preferably in an upper-upscale hotel;
  • Strong knowledge in restaurant operations as well as previous Banquet kitchen experience.
