Construction Electricians install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures in buildings. They ensure compliance with safety codes, read blueprints, and troubleshoot electrical problems.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain and repair electrical systems and equipment in construction sites
  • Read blueprints or technical diagrams to plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment or fixtures
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment or fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters or oscilloscopes
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus or components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment and components to identify hazards, defects and the need for adjustment or repair and to ensure compliance with codes

Requirements:

  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent
  • Completed apprenticeship program in electrical field or equivalent work experience
  • Valid electrician license or certification
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics
  • Knowledge of local and national electrical codes
  • Experience with installation and repair of electrical systems in residential and commercial buildings
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical problems and perform maintenance tasks
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
