Bricklayers construct and repair structures, walls, arches and other edifices from brick, concrete block, or other masonry materials. Responsibilities include interpreting blueprints, mixing mortar, and ensuring structural integrity.

Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret blueprints and drawings to determine specifications and layout requirements.
  • Prepare and lay out brickwork according to drawings and specifications, using measuring and marking tools.
  • Mix mortar and other materials to create cement, concrete, or plaster, using hand tools or cement mixers.
  • Cut bricks using hammers, chisels, or power tools and shape them to fit in specific spaces, using hand or power tools.
  • Apply mortar to brickwork joints using trowels, scrapers, or other tools.
  • Repair or replace damaged bricks and other building materials.
  • Ensure that all work is completed on time and to high quality standards.
  • Keep work area clean and organized and ensure that all tools and equipment are properly maintained.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 2 years of experience as a bricklayer or a related field
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and diagrams
  • Experience using various hand and power tools, such as hammers, chisels, trowels, and power saws
  • Physical strength and stamina to lift heavy materials and work in various weather conditions
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in measurements and calculations
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
