System Design Specialist Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a System Design Specialist to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Similarly creates new concepts or modifies existing concepts to fulfil customer requirements;
- Convert customer requirements into conceptual designs and operating scenarios;
- Ensure that safety is built into the design by early identification and resolution of safety related defects;
- Handling of unexpected technical problems in a timely manner;
- Perform system analysis, modelling and simulation to specify the system performance, and verify the train control systems;
- Promote a safety culture where product safety is paramount;
- Assist marketing in the preparation of technical proposals and budgets based on knowledge of ATC technology, customer requirements and simulation;
- Ensure operating scenarios are sufficiently complete early on in the project;
- Ensure the technical designs comply with customer specification/requirements at the lowest risk to the company;
- Analyze train characteristics and safety requirements to define the safe braking model;
- Ensure the guideway design is implemented in accordance with applicable standards and signaling principles;
- Development, implementation and maintenance of relevant tools whether procured or internally developed;
- Ability to manage the delivery of technical solution on time and on-budget via work package management;
- Deliver the project guideway application data, signal plan, crossover coordinates, track maps and guideway database to software groups;
- Present and gain approval for technical design proposals (operating scenarios) with internal functions, customers and management.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years of technical experience;
- Familiarity with modern software development methodology tools and software specification;
- Experience with DOORS, or equivalent, is desirable;
- Fluent in English combined with proficient technical writing skills;
- Model based system engineering experience an asset;
- Familiarity with military and automated train control systems specifications and standards;
- Knowledge of railway signalling techniques;
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering or equivalent;
- Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety (RAMS);
- 2+ years relevant work experience;
- Integration of complex systems;
- Specification-driven hardware and software systems design and associated tools i.e. Doors;
- Testing and Troubleshooting of Electromechanical and software systems;
- An IRSE Principles Systems designer/ System designer license is desirable;
- Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC).
