Qualifies vendors, evaluates bids, and negotiates prices and terms for purchased goods and services. Being a Buyer I tracks purchases, monitors vendor quality, and maintains a current database of vendor information. May require a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent. Additionally, Buyer I typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Buyer I works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Work is closely managed. To be a Buyer I typically requires 0-2 years of related experience.

Our company is looking for a Buyer to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Over and above requesting parts from other sites, managing rejections that happen here in Montreal with the supplier;
  • Actively participate and engage in continuous improvement strategies and cost reduction initiatives;
  • The suppliers are all over the world, they will be working with current/existing suppliers;
  • Expedite the PO’s;
  • Interface with suppliers and service representatives to get positions going back to the RNC and rejections;
  • Responsible for day-to-day purchasing activities including purchase requisitions, purchase orders, expediting, and approving invoices;
  • It will be predominantly in English but dealing with logistics and production teams in French;
  • Stocking strategy for the items that break frequently;
  • Interface with the sister sites;
  • Ensure ownership and responsibility is taken for all purchasing requirements;
  • Manage the shortages through an extract that happens 4 times a day through SAP e-short (which is a web-based extract from SAP);
  • They are entering on average 10/day both stock transfers and PO’s;
  • These are all parts that are rejected in some way or form, and a replacement is required, the focus is to carry the right amount;
  • Ability to work core business hours of 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM eastern time Monday through Friday;
  • Source product and prepare proposals for customer requirements.

Requirements:

  • Be motivated, goal-oriented and determined;
  • A degree in purchasing or procurement will be considered an asset;
  • Have a good command of Excel;
  • Ability to work in a group environment;
  • Ability to maintain a positive and progressive working relationship with suppliers and colleagues;
  • Keen sense of responsibility and planning;
  • Proven success in sourcing, purchasing and partnering with suppliers;
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication/documentation skills;
  • Excellent communication and analytical abilities;
  • Knowledge of SAP R/3, eProcurement, NAFTA & CETA and related legislative requirements;
  • Good judgment and global vision;
  • Knowledge of technical aspects related to this position;
  • Ability to present themselves in a professional manner;
  • Knowledge of electronic and/or software market;
  • Effective management of the quality and on time delivery evaluations.
