ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

NL Health Services – Western Zone is seeking an Intensivist or specialist with considerable experience in Critical Care Medicine at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook, NL.

Responsibilities include participation in ICU on-call schedules and base specialty practice across Internal Medicine and subspecialties, Anesthesiology, and Emergency Medicine. Western Memorial Regional Hospital is a newly constructed, state-of-the-art 164-bed regional referral centre — the largest hospital in Newfoundland and Labrador outside St. John's — serving Western Newfoundland.

Practice Profile:

• 8–12 ICU weeks per year
• 12-bed Level III ICU
• Renal replacement therapy with CRRT and intermittent HD with nephrology backup
• Full diagnostic imaging including CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, and Interventional Radiology
• Teaching opportunities including local Family Medicine program, rotating Internal Medicine residents, and clinical clerks
• Tertiary services including invasive cardiology, cardiovascular surgery, and neurosurgery available in St. John's

QUALIFICATIONS

• Medical Degree (MD) from a recognized institution
• Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification or eligibility in Internal Medicine and subspecialties, Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine, or General Surgery
• Certification in Adult Critical Care Medicine considered a strong asset
• Candidates without Critical Care Medicine certification must demonstrate commensurate experience and procedural skills for the position
• Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (
• Must satisfy credentialing requirements of NL Health Services including a satisfactory criminal record check and vulnerable sector check

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide comprehensive critical care services in the 12-bed Level III ICU
• Participate equitably in ICU on-call schedules
• Provide base specialty practice in Internal Medicine and subspecialties, Anesthesiology, or Emergency Medicine as applicable
• Manage complex patients requiring renal replacement therapy including CRRT and intermittent HD
• Liaise with nephrology backup and tertiary specialty services in St. John's as required
• Contribute to teaching and education of Family Medicine residents, Internal Medicine residents, and clinical clerks
• Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary critical care team
• Support person- and family-centered care; promote patient and worker safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements

REMUNERATION

ICU remuneration is via Alternate Payment Plan (APP). Non-ICU service remuneration is Fee-For-Service and/or Alternate Payment Plan in accordance with the Medical Care Plan (MCP) Fee Schedule. An annual Retention Bonus is offered in accordance with the current Memorandum of Agreement (MOA).
