Position Description

Informatics Pharmacist - Application Specialist

Position Description:

This is a 0.5 FTE Informatics Pharmacist role in the division of Haematology/Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy (Haem/Onc/BMT/CT) and ideal for a Clinical Pharmacist who is interested in maintaining some of their clinical duties (0.5FTE) while assuming new clinical informatics roles and responsibilities outlined below for the remaining portion of their FTE (0.5 FTE).

The Informatics Pharmacist in the division of Haem/Onc/BMT/CT uses expertise in pharmacy, EPIC and other clinical computer applications and understanding of the SickKids organizational culture to provide leadership and support in the field of informatics as it relates to the delivery of care for patients with cancer and hematological disorders. The Informatics Pharmacist will collaborate with division staff to achieve strategic goals as they relate to decision-making, education, implementation, ongoing evaluation, maintenance and upgrading of treatment plans, standard of care plans and programs and other relevant clinical and research practice guidelines and policies and ensuring that EPIC and other clinical information systems and technologies are effectively used throughout the division. The Informatics Pharmacist integrates research into practice and uses critical thinking and problem-solving skills to guide evidence-based decisions in advocating for positive patient outcomes.

Here's What You'll Get To Do:

Role Activities:

• Develop, review, implement and maintain all Epic order tools required for the Haem/Onc/BMT/CT program.
• Develop, review, implement and maintain SOC plans for all sections across the division. Lead the content development for dose modifications used in SOCs.
• Maintain Haem/Onc/BMT/CT Chemotherapy Administration Guidelines at the direction of the divisional therapeutic safety committee.
• Participate in divisional committees, task forces and meetings in a leadership, liaison and consultative role.
• Provide education and re-training to prepare staff for new/updated clinical computer applications, or implementation of new Epic processes and workflows, or when knowledge gaps are identified for existing Epic processes.
• Provide input to research pharmacists on drug build for investigational medications used in Epic beacon protocol build.
• Provide consultation to pharmacy clinical informatics/Willow teams for Haem/Onc related medications requiring Epic drug build or revision.
• Other duties as required or as requested by operational or professional manager/director.

Leadership:

• Act as a skilled liaison between Epic users in the division, Epic Beacon, and any other IS staff or other teams, as needed.
• Influence change within the organization to ensure that SickKids upholds leading practices associated with clinical and corporate computer applications.
• Provides consultation to other interdisciplinary teams outside the division, or other cancer programs outside of SickKids as needed.
• Collaborate and consult with internal/external stakeholders to ensure that computer applications reflect and support practices.

• Participate in Quality and Risk Management activities, including consulting with and providing data for case review and/or medical-legal cases.
• Participate in Caring Safely and Daily CIP Programs.
• Participate in professional development activities that may include:
  • Engaging in discussions with internal and external colleagues and organizations to exchange knowledge and expertise in informatics
  • Attending and/or speaking at local, provincial, national and international informatics conferences to gain insight into informatics best practices for potential integration into current practice at SickKids.

Here's What You'll Need

Essential Requirements

• Professional Registration Required: Ontario College of Pharmacists (or eligible for registration) Part A
• Minimum 5 years of experience/clinical practice experience in Oncology.
• Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and experience advancing EDI objectives
• Special Skills/Aptitudes Required:
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

• Research and Bone Marrow Transplant experience are an asset.
