General Internist (Nanaimo)

Overview

The Division of Internal Medicine at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH) seeks full‑time General Internal Medicine Specialists to join our collegial group of five full‑time members and several part‑time physicians. Our group includes subspecialists in Cardiology, Hematology, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Nephrology, Infectious Disease, Respirology, Geriatrics, Neurology, Endocrinology, Obesity, and OB medicine. We provide a large hospitalist service (220/330 patients) and serve as the backbone most responsible physician (MRP) service.

Responsibilities

Provide inpatient rounding, internal medicine on‑call coverage, evening fly‑in coverage, and outpatient clinic follow‑up after discharge. Access to EMR support and electrodiagnostics is available.

Hours of Work (1.0 FTE)

• On‑call shifts: 5 service weeks per year, Monday‑Sunday 08:00‑17:00.
• Evening fly‑in coverage: 4 shifts per month, 17:00‑23:00 for new referrals and 17:00‑08:00 for ward issues.
• Inpatient rounding: 5 service weeks per year, Monday‑Sunday 09:00‑17:00.

Qualifications

• Excellent clinical competence in internal medicine.
• Eligible for FRCPC (Internal Medicine with the Royal College of Canada).
• Eligible for licensure with the CPSBC.
