Norpac Construction Incorporated is an independent geotechnical contractor operating across British Columbia and Alberta, specializing in slope stabilization and civil construction work. Founded in 2016, Norpac brings together a management team and workforce with more than 25 years of experience delivering slope stabilization, ground support, and related geotechnical solutions. Work is completed in close collaboration with clients to address site-specific conditions and project requirements.

Norpac provides end-to-end project support, including site assessment, solution development, design engineering where required, construction execution, and project close-out. Emphasis is placed on clear communication, coordination between field and office teams, and a team-based approach throughout the project lifecycle.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

We are seeking an experienced Civil Superintendent with a strong background in earthworks, site development, road construction, and heavy civil operations. The successful candidate will provide hands-on field leadership and oversee the safe, efficient execution of civil construction activities, with particular emphasis on large-scale earthmoving, excavation, material handling, trucking logistics, and site preparation.

The ideal candidate has practical experience leading crews and equipment in challenging field environments and understands the coordination required between excavation, load-haul-dump operations, dump management, road construction, aggregate processing, quarry operations, and trucking.

Experience with slope stabilization, geohazard mitigation, ground improvement, or other specialized civil/geotechnical work is considered an asset.

Project locations include Alberta and British Columbia, but may extend to other regions as required.

Key Responsibilities



· Provide day-to-day field supervision and leadership for civil and earthworks operations.

· Plan, coordinate, and supervise site preparation, clearing, stripping, excavation, grading, and mass earthmoving activities.

· Direct load-haul-dump (LHD) operations, including efficient deployment and utilization of heavy equipment.

· Manage material movement, placement, stockpiles, dumps, and disposal areas to maximize productivity and maintain site organization.

· Oversee construction and maintenance of access roads, haul roads, temporary roads, ramps, and working platforms.

· Coordinate trucking operations, including haul routes, truck allocation, loading/unloading cycles, traffic flow, and production requirements.

· Work closely with equipment operators, truck drivers, foremen, surveyors, engineers, project managers, and subcontractors to maintain production targets.

· Monitor daily production, equipment utilization, material quantities, and work progress.

· Ensure work is completed in accordance with project drawings, specifications, schedules, quality requirements, and environmental commitments.

· Coordinate with quarry and aggregate operations to ensure appropriate material is available for construction activities.

· Develop a working understanding of gravel processing, crushing, screening, stockpiling, and aggregate production and how these operations support civil construction.

· Assist with quarry development, extraction, material selection, and aggregate handling where required.

· Identify field constraints and proactively develop practical solutions to maintain productivity and schedule.

· Participate in planning daily and weekly work activities, equipment requirements, manpower allocation, and material requirements.

· Maintain strong communication with project management regarding progress, constraints, risks, and upcoming requirements.

· Promote a strong safety culture and ensure crews follow company policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.

· Conduct or participate in toolbox meetings, pre-job hazard assessments, inspections, and daily coordination meetings.

· Monitor site conditions and identify potential hazards associated with excavation, slopes, haul roads, dumps, heavy equipment, and changing ground conditions.

· Support quality control activities, including grade, elevations, compaction, material placement, and adherence to project specifications.

· Maintain accurate daily records, production reports, equipment reports, and other required documentation.

· Work effectively in remote, high-production, and changing site conditions.

Requirements

· Proven experience as a Civil Superintendent, Earthworks Superintendent, General Superintendent, or equivalent field leadership role.

· Significant hands-on experience in heavy civil construction and earthworks.

· Strong practical knowledge of:

· Site preparation and mass excavation

· Earthmoving and material handling

· Load-haul-dump operations

· Dump and spoil management

· Cut-and-fill operations

· Road and haul-road construction

· Grading and site development

· Trucking and material-hauling logistics

· Heavy equipment operations and production

· Experience coordinating large fleets of excavators, loaders, dozers, graders, rock trucks, articulated trucks, water trucks, and other heavy equipment.

· Working knowledge of aggregate, gravel, and quarry operations , including crushing, screening, processing, stockpiling, and material handling.

· Strong understanding of construction sequencing, production rates, equipment utilization, and efficient material movement.

· Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, survey information, and project documentation.

· Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage crews, subcontractors, equipment operators, and trucking resources.

· Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and environmental compliance.

· Ability to work extended hours and/or rotational schedules where required.

Preferred / Asset Experience

The following qualifications would be considered assets:

• Experience with slope stabilization and geohazard mitigation .
• Exposure to landslide remediation, rockfall mitigation, erosion control, slope reinforcement, or ground stabilization.
• Experience working around steep terrain, unstable ground, mountainous environments, or other challenging geotechnical conditions.
• Experience with quarry development or large-scale aggregate production.
• Experience working on remote or resource-sector projects.
• Familiarity with GPS/machine-control systems and modern construction technology.
• Experience with production tracking, quantity measurement, and project reporting.
• Relevant technical training, trade certification, civil construction education, or equivalent
