Occupational Therapist - Stroke Services

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Glasgow Stroke OT service for an OT who is keen to specialise in stroke. This team are highly motivated and supportive.

The post holder will provide direct clinical care with a highly complex caseload incorporating patient assessment, treatment and discharge from care, within the in-patient Stroke service. Complex discharge planning skills are a key requirement to enable timely and safe discharges from the ward.

The role will include evaluation, audit projects, staff / student supervision / induction and providing expert advice on OT interventions.

All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

• Location based in Queen Elizabeth University Hospital
• Permanent Contract
• Full-time position (36 hours per week)
• Shift pattern for this post are 5 out of 7 days a week

Key Responsibilities

• To be professionally and legally accountable and responsible for all aspects of own work, including direct and indirect patient care, within scope of practice
• To assess capacity, gain valid consent and has the ability to work within a legal framework with patients who lack the capacity to consent.
• Act independently to assess and analyse individual patients to determine their need for occupational therapy intervention within specialist area of stroke through client centred practice.
• This will include patients with multiple pathologies and complex clinical presentation.
• Act independently to plan, implement, evaluate, treat and progress patient care to maximise their rehabilitation potential – including decision making regarding discharge from care.
• Manage an identified caseload of patients effectively and efficiently for occupational therapy intervention.
• May be identified as a key worker within the inter-disciplinary team for goal planning.
• Communicate effectively, work collaboratively with and make recommendations to all relevant colleagues to maximise patient care and promote effective multi-disciplinary working. Actively participates in weekly MDT meetings, which includes clinical review and weekly goal setting.
• Undertake screening of referrals and multi-professional baseline assessment to identify areas of need across range of professions.
• Keep abreast of developments in occupational therapy and other related professional practice by personal study, in-service training and external courses
• Incorporate additional skills gained from Continuing Professional Development (CPD) into clinical practice and disseminates to others.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

• It is essential that you have a Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy and that you are currently registered with the HCPC.
