Software Development Manager

What the Role Does:

Lead software developers, shape technical direction, and turn business goals into reliable software delivery.

LawDepot is looking to recruit a Software Development Manager to lead the teams responsible for our contract platform and internal content management system (CMS) editor experience. This role combines technical leadership with people management. You will guide development decisions, strengthen engineering practices, and build teams that consistently deliver meaningful product and platform improvements. You will coach and support developers, set clear expectations, and create the conditions for strong execution.

Working closely with Product, UX, QA, Architecture, and other Information Systems leaders, you will align priorities, manage delivery, improve quality, and ensure the team’s work supports long-term business goals. You will also advance practical AI adoption by using AI tools in your own work, helping developers build effective AI-assisted workflows, and measuring how these practices improve delivery, software quality, and customer outcomes.

This is a full-time, permanent position working 37.5 hours per week, with the option to work hybrid from our Edmonton, Alberta office or fully remote across Canada.

What You’ll Do:

• Manage Software Developers and Scrum Masters to create technical solutions that deliver an exceptional experience for our millions of website users and our internal CMS platform team members

• Set clear expectations, coach team members, guide performance and career development, and build shared ownership of delivery and production quality

• Partner with Product Owners and stakeholders to develop high level strategy and deliver technical roadmaps

• Remove delivery obstacles and keep teams focused on high-impact, value-driven work

• Translate technical context, risks, dependencies, and trade-offs into clear business language for stakeholders and leaders

• Make architecture and technology selection decisions that align with business goals and long-term scalability

• Manage project schedules, scope, work estimates, dependencies, risks, and delivery commitments

• Identify and apply practical uses of AI across technical investigation, prototyping, code review, test case development, documentation, and delivery analysis to improve team efficiency, software quality, customer outcomes, and product capabilities

• Coach developers on effective AI-assisted engineering practices, including task decomposition, context preparation, output validation, and appropriate human review

• Strengthen development practices related to web applications, APIs, data models, automated testing, CI/CD, security, and production troubleshooting

• Manage releases, rollout readiness, rollback planning, incident response, technical quality, and the removal of temporary feature flags or obsolete code

• Enable website experimentation setup with Product and Analytics teams, ensuring clear success measures and operational readiness

• Support hiring, onboarding, day-to-day operations, and people management activities to foster a high-performing team

What You Bring:

The Essentials

• Post-secondary education in Computing Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field

• 2+ years of demonstrated experience leading software development teams and supporting developer performance, growth, and delivery

• 7+ years of experience in software development, architecture, or technical delivery

• Experience managing projects, processes, priorities, and technical delivery in a software development environment

• Strong technical judgment across web applications, APIs, data models, automated testing, CI/CD, security, and production troubleshooting

• Hands-on experience using AI platforms, agents, or related tools in real software engineering work

• Ability to validate AI-generated output, identify risks, and coach others on where human judgment is required

• Strong business acumen and the ability to connect technical decisions to company priorities and operational outcomes

• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional business stakeholders

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain trade-offs, negotiate scope, and align stakeholders

• Familiarity with Agile processes and cross-functional software delivery

The Nice to Haves (Great if you have it and we’ll help you learn if you don’t)

• Experience with our core technology stack, including TypeScript or JavaScript, C#/.NET, Vue, SQL Server, and Entity Framework Core

• Experience introducing reusable AI workflows, engineering playbooks, or developer enablement practices, including measuring their impact on delivery, quality, rework, or cost

• Familiarity with Model Context Protocol or similar approaches for connecting AI tools to engineering or product workflows

• Experience leading AI adoption, technical transformation, or broader change management initiatives
