Director of CIAM Platform Management & Next-Generation Identity Architecture
What Is The Opportunity?
The Director of CIAM Platform Management & Next-Generation Identity Architecture is responsible for designing, implementing, and evolving RBC’s comprehensive CIAM platform ecosystem to support a future‑state vision of real‑time access intelligence, identity risk scoring, dynamic access decisioning, and ultimately Zero Standing Access governance.
This role manages the complete CIAM platform stack, including Auth0 for workforce and customer authentication/authorization, RBC Products for network access control and policy enforcement, and complementary identity intelligence and governance technologies to deliver a unified identity fabric that governs both human and non‑human identities (including AI services, machine identities, APIs, and autonomous workloads).
The Director provides thought leadership on emerging identity architectures, evolving access control models, and next‑generation risk governance, while leading cross‑functional teams to ensure the platform roadmap aligns with business needs, enterprise architecture standards, and security imperatives across the organization.
- CIAM Platform Ownership: end‑to‑end management of the CIAM platform portfolio, including core authentication/authorization (Auth0), network access control (F5), identity governance, risk scoring, and access intelligence capabilities.
- Next‑Generation Architecture: defining and implementing the technical roadmap for evolving identity governance to support Zero Standing Access, real‑time risk scoring, and adaptive access decisions across human and non‑human identities.
- Vendor & Technology Ecosystem: strategic vendor management of Auth0, F5, and complementary identity intelligence platforms (Veza, Radiant Logic, Silverfort, Cyber Ark) to ensure cohesive platform integration and capability advancement.
- Cross‑Functional Leadership: building and leading teams, establishing governance models that align CIAM capabilities with enterprise architecture, regulatory compliance, and Lines of Business requirements.
What Will You Do?
LoB Collaboration & Requirements- Work directly with LoB stakeholders to understand migration requirements, data integration needs, and automation opportunities for CIAM platform onboarding.
- Translate LoB business requirements into technical specifications for AI automation development.
- Identify and prioritize high‑impact automation opportunities that reduce manual effort and accelerate platform adoption.
- Ensure solutions address both immediate migration needs and long‑term governance requirements.
- Collaborate with internal AI teams to define the vision, direction, and technical standards for CIAM‑related automations.
- Facilitate design and development of automated migration tools, risk assessment automations, and governance workflows.
- Establish automation governance frameworks ensuring security, compliance, and operational feasibility.
- Provide technical oversight to ensure automations are maintainable, scalable, and meet enterprise architectural standards.
- Act as liaison between LoB teams and AI/engineering teams, translating requirements and ensuring alignment on delivery.
- Facilitate stakeholder workshops to validate automation designs and ensure stakeholder buy‑in.
- Communicate automation benefits, roadmaps, and progress to both technical and business audiences.
- Address implementation risks and iterate on solutions based on stakeholder feedback.
- Identify bottlenecks in current CIAM onboarding processes and recommend automation solutions.
- Track and measure velocity improvements resulting from automation deployment.
- Continuously refine automation approaches to maximize efficiency and adoption.
- Recruit, lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing team, providing opportunities for growth.
- Set performance objectives, provide leadership and direction, and create a culture and work environment that attracts, retains, and motivates a diverse, skilled workforce.
- Perform quarterly reviews with staff and ensure evaluations encompass project feedback and comparative reviews across the team.
- Apply HR best practices and talent management practices, managing absence, vacation, and leaves.
- Drive team effectiveness, continuous improvement, and excellence in delivery.
- Lead the development of information security awareness and communication and training programs across the enterprise to align with the overall CIAM strategy and compliance to regulatory and/or established CIAM policy/standards.
What Do You Need To Succeed?
- 10+ years of experience with Identity and Access Management (IAM/CIAM) platform architecture and design.
- Demonstrated leadership in designing and implementing enterprise‑wide CIAM platforms or authentication/authorization platforms (Auth0, Okta, Ping, similar).
- Experience with network access control platforms (F5, Palo Alto, Cisco).
- Proven ability to define product roadmaps and prioritize across competing stakeholder needs.
- Experience managing vendor relationships for identity technologies and ensuring platform integration.
- Strong strategic thinking about how identity architectures should evolve to support emerging business models and security paradigms.
- Expertise in authentication, authorization, identity governance, and access control architectures.
- Deep familiarity with Auth0, F5, and complementary identity intelligence/governance platforms; ability to assess and integrate new technologies.
- Strong understanding of Zero Trust principles, real‑time risk scoring, dynamic access decisions, and Zero Standing Access models.
- Knowledge of securing machine identities, API authentication, AI services, and autonomous workloads.
- Ability to translate business strategy into platform roadmaps; understanding financial services business models and compliance requirements.
- Strategic thinking to anticipate future identity governance needs (e.g., AI/ML integration, emerging threat models).
- Proven ability to negotiate, manage, and extract value from vendor relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, and retain high‑performing teams in a fast‑paced environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Security, or equivalent.
- Nice‑to‑have: Hands‑on experience with Auth0, F5, Veza, Radiant Logic, Silverfort, or Cyber Ark technologies; experience implementing Zero Trust or Zero Standing Access initiatives; familiarity with AI/ML applications in identity and access governance; experience governing non‑human identities; background in financial services or regulated industries; experience with verifiable credentials or emerging identity standards; familiarity with RPA or automation; CISSP, CCSK, or equivalent security certification.
