Health Information Specialist

Job Responsibility:

We are accepting applications for part-time, permanent Health Information Specialist in our Peterborough location. This position is based on 21 hours per week; however, the successful candidate will work 35 hours per week on a temporary basis until March 31, 2025.

In this position, you will coordinate the release of personal health information in accordance with the Personal Health Information and Protection Act (PHIPA), the Health Care Consent Act, and centre policies. You will provide on-boarding support to all new staff related to privacy and consent and act as the liaison for FCCC, regarding complex care appointments and consent related issues.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Respond to external requests for client-related information, centre-wide, in accordance with the PHIPA identified requirements.
• Analyze and assemble health information to meet the requirements of an access request for clinical information.
• Maintain high standards of privacy/confidentiality regarding all information pertinent to children and families served by the Centre.
• Maintain current knowledge in the area of consent and sharing of personal health information.
• Participate in the on-boarding of new staff related to privacy and confidentiality.
• Participate as a member of the Privacy Committee.
• Contribute to the development of privacy policies, processes, and practices specific to Five Counties Children's Centre.
• Provide support to the Centre Privacy Officer and Program Manager as required.
• Responsible for circulation of Complex Care Clinic (CCC) weekly schedules/updates and CCC care plans.
• Member of the CCC Operations/Steering Committee jointly with the Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) and Sick Kids Hospital.

What You Bring:

• Health Information Management Diploma or equivalent
• Certification with Canadian Health information Management Association preferred.
• One year experience working as a Health Information Specialist or equivalent or a minimum of 2 years experience in a related role.
• Familiarity with the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) and the Health Care Consent Act (HCCA) and ability to advise on and practically apply relevant legislation.
• Proficient knowledge of medical terminology.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Capable of exercising independent judgement utilizing sound problem solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with FCCC staff and other professionals in the community in a professional and courteous manner.
• Exceptional organizational and communication skills (written and verbal).
• Ability to prioritize, multi-task, deal with interruptions and work under pressure.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality when handling sensitive/confidential information or situations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office is required, especially Word and Excel; knowledge of AlayaCare is an asset.
• Access to reliable transportation to perform job responsibilities at all Centre locations.
• Clear vulnerable sector check and proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
