Service Technician – Job Description
A Service Technician is an experienced field professional responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining complex mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems. This role typically includes a mix of hands‑on technical work, customer interaction, mentoring junior technicians, and ensuring high‑quality service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform advanced diagnostics on HVAC, refrigeration, or mechanical systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair equipment failures using technical expertise and manufacturer guidelines.
- Conduct preventive maintenance to improve system performance and reduce downtime.
- Install, commission, and test new equipment or system upgrades.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior or apprentice technicians.
- Document service activities, including parts used, work performed, and recommendations.
- Maintain strong customer relationships, explaining findings and solutions professionally.
- Interpret schematics and technical manuals for complex systems.
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures, regulations, and company standards.
- Recommend system improvements or replacement solutions based on customer needs.
Typical Qualifications
- Extensive hands‑on field experience in HVAC, refrigeration, mechanical service, or a related trade.
- Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, and control systems.
- Technical certifications (HVAC licenses) depending on region.
- Strong communication and customer‑service skills.
- Proficiency with service tools, diagnostic equipment, and digital work order systems.
