Position Summary

The Finance Operations Lead is responsible for leading the day-to-day finance operations, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial information. This role performs and oversees key Finance functions, including general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, financial reporting, and compliance with applicable Finance standards and organizational policies. The Finance Operations Lead will provide professional expertise to and review the work of Finance staff . They will work closely with the Director of Finance to support financial planning, reporting, and decision‑making and supports continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen the College’s maintain financial health and compliance with legal requirements.

It is essential for all College staff to contribute to a public protection mandate, delivering efficient and responsive services that align with the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA) and broader commitments to reconciliation, while supporting the College in meeting its regulatory, strategic, and operational goals.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist with and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reporting ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery.


• Review general ledger entries, reconciliations, and adjustments to ensure accuracy and completeness.


• Prepare and review advanced supporting schedules, working papers, and analytical reports for internal and external stakeholders.


• Support the Director, Finance with the development of budgets and forecasts by preparing analyses, reviewing assumptions, and identifying trends.


• Provide analytical support by identifying and explaining variances in financial results.


• Coordinate audit processes by addressing auditor inquiries and ensuring readiness of financial documentation.


• Review accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other financial transactions prepared by Finance staff to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance.

• Lead and oversee day-to-day Finance operations, including coordinating priorities and timelines, assigning responsibilities, and monitoring the workload of Finance staff.


• Provide guidance, training, and support to Finance staff, promoting skill development and consistent application of accounting standards.

• Oversee external year-end audit process, preparing required working papers and documentation.

• Ensure compliance with Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS), internal policies, and regulatory requirements.


• Maintain and enhance internal controls to safeguard financial accuracy and integrity.

• Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes, enhance workflow efficiency, and improve reporting accuracy.

• Contribute to financial system upgrades, enhancements, and implementation initiatives, including testing and process documentation.


• Recommend and implement improvements to internal controls and reporting tools.


• Serve as a resource to College staff for finance inquiries and for resolving accounting


• Demonstrates a commitment to ongoing learning related to Indigenous cultural safety and humility and supporting organizational actions towards addressing indigenous-specific racism in BC’s health care system.

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree preferably in Business Accounting or Finance; an appropriate combination of training and experience will be considered.


• CPA or its equivalent is required.


• A minimum 5-8 years of related working experience.


• A minimum of 3 years of people management or supervisory experience.


• Demonstrated ability to manage complex accounting activities and apply critical thinking and sound professional judgement.


• Effective collaboration skills with the ability to work closely with a variety of internal invested parties to gather information, resolve financial issues, and ensure accurate reporting.


• Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks, or ERP systems) and Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.


• Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with data analysis tools.


• Proven experience reviewing the work of others and providing constructive feedback or guidance with a supportive and collaborative approach.


• Excellent communication and organizational skills.


• Ability to work collaboratively and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.


• Excellent verbal and written communication skills


• Accuracy and attention to detail.


• Awareness of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA) and Action Plan and their application to the work at CCHPBC. 


• Knowledge of the social, economic, political, and historical impacts of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples, along with familiarity with Indigenous-specific anti-racism, cultural safety, and relevant foundational documents and legislative commitments and how they intersect across the health care system. 


• Working knowledge of the Health Professions and Occupations Act including their application to the work at CCHPBC.

Compensation and Perks

The compensation for this position ranges from $104,000 to $140,000 annually, based on a 37.5-hour work week. The starting salary will be determined by factors such as the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, experience, the salaries of peers within the same range, market conditions, and other relevant considerations.

This role requires a minimum of three (3) in-office days per week, with priority given to designated team collaboration days. Work-from-home arrangements are dependent on operational requirements. Additionally, this role may occasionally require the incumbent to work outside of normal office hours.
