Commercial Credit Portfolio Manager

Brief Description

As the Commercial Credit Portfolio Manager , you will adjudicate credit applications and monitor a diverse portfolio of commercial credit exposures to support organizational growth and risk objectives. The Commercial Credit Adjudicator works closely with internal stakeholders to assess credit risk, structure lending facilities, analyze portfolio trends, and evolve SASCU's lending capabilities.

What You’ll Do (key Accountabilities)

• Adjudicate commercial and retail credit applications within delegated lending authorities, delivering consistent, risk-informed decisions aligned with credit policy, regulatory requirements, and organizational risk appetite.
• Strengthen credit quality by validating borrower financial information, forecasts, risk ratings, and key assumptions to support well-founded adjudication decisions.
• Enable sound credit decisions by working with Commercial Relationship Managers to structure viable lending solutions that balance member needs with prudent risk standards.
• Protect portfolio quality and profitability through proactive review of credit exposures, covenant performance, renewals, amendments, and restructures, enabling early identification and management of emerging risk.
• Support sound lending practices by establishing documentation and security requirements that align with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and risk objectives.
• Advance sustainable portfolio growth and diversification by identifying market opportunities, strategic partnerships, and commercial lending initiatives aligned with organizational objectives.
• Improve member value and portfolio performance by supporting the development and implementation of commercial lending products, services, and process enhancements.
• Strengthen portfolio stability by monitoring lending trends, concentrations, delinquency, watch-list exposures, and other key indicators and recommending timely risk mitigation strategies.
• Enable effective management and Board oversight by delivering clear portfolio analysis and reporting on performance, composition, emerging risks, and lending trends.
• Support regulatory compliance and stakeholder confidence through effective participation in internal and external audits and regulatory reviews.
• Strengthen credit quality and consistency by providing guidance to lending teams on credit structuring, policy interpretation, risk considerations, and adjudication practices.
• Improve lending effectiveness and member experience by collaborating across teams to balance responsive service with prudent credit standards.
• Enhance portfolio management and operational effectiveness by identifying and advancing improvements to credit processes, monitoring, reporting, and risk management practices.
• Support informed lending decisions by incorporating relevant industry, economic, and regulatory developments into credit and portfolio management practices.
• Strengthen lending team capability and continuity through knowledge sharing, cross-training, and support across lending functions.

What You’ll Bring (qualifications)

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, or related field.
• 6-7 years of experience in commercial credit underwriting, portfolio management, or related financial services roles.
• Strong knowledge of commercial lending products, credit risk assessment, and relevant regulatory requirements.
• Proficiency in financial statement analysis and credit risk rating tools.
• Advanced Excel and credit system skills; familiarity with portfolio management is an asset.
• Analytical mindset with excellent attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills—able to present complex credit matters clearly and persuasively.
• Results-oriented with sound judgment and decision-making ability.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Collaborative and relationship focused.
