Manager, Mental Health Programs

About the client:

Our client is a successful non-profit organization offering support services to those experiencing mental health issues or facing homelessness in the Greater Vancouver Area.

They are currently seeking a compassionate and strategic Mental Health Programs Manager to oversee the Mental Health and Assisted Living programs. Previous experience working with licensed programs (focus on mental health and collaboration with health authorities) and exposure to clinical programs is a strong preference.

This role is ideal for an experienced professional who understands the unique needs of a nonprofit environment and is committed to equity, inclusion, and staff development.

This is a full-time, permanent position based in Burnaby, BC. Daily in-office presence is required.

Responsibilities:

· Participates as a member of the management team in ensuring services and facilities are effective and consistent with the agency mandate, philosophy, contractual, budgetary and legislative requirements by:

o Organizing, directing and controlling the day to day operations of the mental health programs

o Developing long range and strategic plans

o Assessing and resolving operational issues and policies

o Supervising, hiring, onboarding, training and evaluating the performance of mental health program staff

o Establishing and maintaining relationships with individuals using the services, advocates, client family members, funders, volunteers, community groups, staff and the general public

· Supports the long-term financial viability of the organization within an environment of fiscal and program accountability by:

o Preparing the operating budget for mental health programs in consultation with the Finance Director

o Supervising expenditures to ensure actual costs match budget

o Preparing statistics for reporting on performance and spending to funders

o Participating in the implementation of fund-raising activities

· Oversees the day-to-day operations of mental health programs, to ensure clients needs are met appropriately by:

o Performing assessments and coordinating the placement of clients referred

o Monitoring the service delivery of workers for structure consistency, quality of guidance of clients and suitability of activities

o Delivery and organization of staff orientation and professional development

o Supervision of the Assisted Living site in collaboration with the Program Coordinator and Community RN

· Ensures that accurate program and client records are maintained in a complete, useful and confidential manner by:

o Developing standards for documentation

o Monitoring staff to ensure compliance to those standards

· Ensures that appropriate systems are in place to support and maintain the agency programs by:

o Conducting quality assurance reviews

o Discussion of problem situations, attendance at special case conferences and client discharge meetings

o Establishing and ensuring all professional, licensing or other accreditation requirements are in place to satisfy legal, regulatory and other requirements

· Represents and advances the needs, wishes and best interests of mental health clients and the community at large by:

o Consulting with housing applicants and mental health clients regarding current needs

o Participating in appropriate associations, forums and networks to ensure clients needs are represented

o Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with community agencies, government officials, associations and working groups

Qualifications:

· 7+ years of supervisory experience, preferably in a non-profit setting focused on provision of health and housing services to persons with mental illness

· Bachelor's degree (or higher qualification) in a human services field, such as health/human services/administration, or similar areas is required.

· Valid BC driver’s license and access to personal vehicle for business related purposes

· Experience managing in a unionized setting is an asset

· Experience working in mental health housing and community supports

· Experience with assisted living, licensed and/or accredited programs is an asset

· Standard First Aid & CPR (ideal)

· Provincial Violence Prevention Program (ideal)

· Naloxone Training (ideal)

· Trauma Informed Practice

· Will need to complete Recovery Centred Clinical System training

· Successful clearance of a criminal record check, federal and vulnerable

· Well-developed oral and communication skills

· Ability to create and maintain a team approach to program delivery, across multidisciplinary and multi-agency teams

· Demonstrated expertise in dealing successfully with persons with mental illness

· Strong background and working knowledge of psychosocial rehabilitation processes

· In-depth understanding of administrative functions; reporting, budget preparation and financial management

· Excellent computer skills, including the ability to use Microsoft Office suite programs

· Extensive experience and demonstrated success in time management, problem solving, conflict resolution and consensus building

· Ability to lead, coach, train and mentor staff and clients

· Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain constructive working relationships with tenants, community groups, government agencies and the public

Compensation:

· $92,000-130,000 annual base salary
