Focus

Our Osoyoos packing facility receives fruit (including cherries, stone fruit, pears, and apples) in bulk from Okanagan-based growers and sorts it for quality and size before packaging it for shipment to our domestic and international customers. Supporting employees, supervisors, and managers by ensuring tasks are completed in a safe and timely manner are important parts of ensuring the quality of produce for our customers. Quality control and grower relations during the receiving process are important aspects of ensuring the quality of produce for our customers. Accurate counts and proper shipping procedures are imperative along the supply chain process.

Key Accountabilities:

• Efficient, clean, organized, and safe set-up and supervision of shipping and receiving, including:
• Receiving of incoming fruit from growers, ensuring grower is in compliance with quality specifications and standards at time of receiving
• Coach and train shipping/receiving employees
• Ensure forklifts are in good working order and operators are following safe work procedures
• Identify, communicate, troubleshoot and/or escalate receiving and/or quality issues to Shipping and Receiving Supervisor and/or Operations Manager
• Responsible for inter-warehouse transfers
• Responsible for export procedures during the shipping/receiving process
• Improve productivity and efficiency by:
• Assisting Forklift Operators in a hands-on manner, providing guidance and coaching on job tasks
• Acting as a floater in shipping and receiving performing tasks as needed
• Assist in appropriate cooler management, including rotation of fruit as required, first-in, first-out
• Assist in appropriate bin management, including conducting bin inventory, and monitoring bin conditions
• Assist in coordinating outbound transportation of bins and fruit
• Ensure compliance with all legislative and organizational policies and procedures, including Occupational Health and Safety and Food Safety requirements
• Participate in inventory counts
• Report any maintenance and safety issues to Shipping and Receiving Supervisor
• Contribute to continuous improvement in systems and procedures
• Completion of other responsibilities as assigned

Education and Experience

• Supervisory and training experience are assets
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to learn in-house software programs (including Sky and Aurora)
• Experience with Microsoft Office Dynamics 365 is an asset
• Knowledge of quality control procedures
• Occupational Health and Safety training is an asset
• Food Safety training is an asset
• Forklift certification is an asset
• Knowledge of a second language is an asset
• First Aid training is an asset
• Previous agriculture and/or packing facility experience is an asset

Working Conditions

Work is mainly conducted indoors at a fruit packing plant environment and can be subject to extreme temperature conditions. This position is full-time. Plant operating hours are dependent on crop, production, and shipping needs, with extended hours and seven-day-a-week operations typical through peak months (i.e., June through October). Positions are seasonal, with limited days off and extended hours as necessary through peak months (i.e. June through October).

Physical Requirements

• Frequent standing and walking, including climbing stairs
• Frequent sitting on and climbing on and off of forklift, including ability to grasp, manipulate, and move levers, foot pedals, and steering wheel knobs
• Frequent lifting, reaching, pushing, pulling, stacking, and carrying of up to 25 kilograms (50 pounds)
