The Career Centre is the source for career and employment information and expertise at the University of Alberta. We strive to empower U of A students, postdoctoral scholars, and alumni from all faculties and programs to develop the skills, knowledge, experiences, and connections they need to confidently manage their careers. Position
Reporting to the Manager Employer Relations, the EEA plays a significant role in engaging with and educating employer partners to support their on-campus recruitment efforts. The EEA will collaborate closely with the Manager Employer Relations and the Manager Career Education to develop and curate employer resources and offer education and consultation to employers and campus partners on relevant topics such as equitable recruitment strategies, engagement opportunities, wage subsidies, employer funding, and potential partnerships. Additionally, the EEA will lead the development and execution of our employer recognition strategy in collaboration with campus partners and other stakeholders.
The EEA will also serve as the campusBRIDGE liaison for the Career Centre, bridging communication and project support between the campusBRIDGE team (university-facing) and other Career Centre teams. Using their solid technical skills and knowledge of online information management systems, the EEA will coordinate campusBRIDGE troubleshooting, upgrading, onboarding, and offboarding projects at the Career Centre, and represent the Career Centre as one of the campusBRIDGE partners in the community of practice.
This role will also provide coverage to the campusBRIDGE team as needed.
Duties
Employer engagement and education
- Develops and implements programs and initiatives that support employer engagement and education, including an employer recognition strategy
- Engages campus partners to participate in programs and initiatives that support employer engagement and education
- Provides targeted guidance and support to employers on enhancing their engagement and recruitment strategies
- Coordinates the creation and delivery of employer educational resources through collaborations with content experts across teams at the Career Centre and from other campus units
- Evaluates programming and other initiatives and makes recommendations for improvements and new programming
- Advocates for and supports equitable and inclusive on-campus recruitment at U of A; supports the development of new experiential learning opportunities for equity-deserving students at U of A
- Works closely with the Career Centre communications team to promote engagement opportunities and other relevant information with employer partners, students and alumni, campus partners, and other stakeholders.
- Keeps abreast of trends and wise practices in post-secondary campus recruitment and employer engagement both locally and nationally, to be able to provide the most up-to-date information to our employer partners, campus partners, and other stakeholders
campusBRIDGE
- Works closely with the Career Centre teams and the campusBRIDGE team, coordinating the communication between the Career Centre staff and the campusBRIDGE team
- In collaboration with the campusBRIDGE team, coordinates the onboarding, testing, troubleshooting, upgrading, and offboarding of any campusBRIDGE modules and components used by Career Centre.
- Develop a good understanding of the Career Centre's evolving program timelines and workflows to assist the campusBRIDGE team in better aligning the platform's functionalities with the program goals, streamlining procedures, enhancing user experience, and increasing efficiency
- Provides coverage to the campusBRIDGE team as needed, monitoring the campusBRIDGE inbox and triaging inquiries as directed by the campusBRIDGE team
Program Administration
- Manages the International Students Summer Employment Program (ISSEP), a wage subsidy program for both on-campus and off-campus employers
- Supports employers and students interested in the ISSEP program in verifying their eligibility, accessing the program portal on campusBRIDGE, and successfully navigating through their application process, making referrals to other services or programs as needed (e.g. referring to the UAI Advisors for immigration and work permit questions)
- Works closely with the Dean of Students Finance Partner to create an annual budget for the ISSEP program and complete the wage subsidy distribution process accurately and efficiently
- Works closely with the Career Centre communications group and communications staff from other units to build program awareness among employers, students, and other campus community groups
- Works closely with the Career Centre evaluation group in developing and implementing program evaluation strategies
- Supports and advises students and employers in navigating conflicts and troubleshooting issues arising during the programs
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree and a minimum of three years of related work experience
- Knowledge and experience in adult learning, such as educational resource development, curricular design, in-person and online group facilitation, teaching, etc.
- Strong customer service skills and experience balancing the competing needs of diverse client and stakeholder groups
- Demonstrated experience in program management with the ability to be reflective, innovative, and creative in program design and delivery
- Knowledge of academic programming, post-secondary recruitment, and basic employment legislation
- Strong commitment to the value of post-secondary education, and solid understanding of university graduate attributes
- Interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to build collaborative working relationships with colleagues, students, and stakeholders from a wide variety of racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds and various abilities, lifestyles, experiences, and interests
- Ability to effectively manage and resolve conflicts
- Ability to communicate concisely in written and verbal forms
- Proven organizational, and time management skills
- Experience in experiential learning (particularly work-integrated learning) and/or career education would be an asset
- Human resources training and experience, especially related to post-secondary campus recruitment would be an asset
- Excellent critical and strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- High degree of initiative and judgment and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Experience with and the ability to learn and utilize administrative systems and technical applications
- Strong technical skills in developing and/or utilizing information management systems, customer relation management systems, or databases
- Computer proficiency using MS Office, Google applications, and social media
