About the Executive IC, Design role

You can probably remember the last thing you designed yourself, before the calendar filled up with reviews and critiques. Leading a team used to be how a great designer multiplied their taste across an org, and for a long time it was the only way. It isn't anymore. The tooling has caught up to the point where one person's hands can cover product, brand, web, and social at a level that used to take a department.

We're looking for designers who have already succeeded in an Executive-level role and want to return to creating the work, not approving it.

Jean-Michel Lemieux , the former CTO of Shopify, just joined a Series B startup as an Executive IC . His title inspired ours, and transitions like his are our reference point. If that's the kind of move you've been waiting to make, this is your seat.

• Impacting how Motion looks and feels across product, web, brand, and social.
• Using AI tooling to produce what once required a team, then refining and elevating it through your own craft and judgment.
• Setting the craft bar by example, so the quality of the entire team's work rises with it.

• A track record of success in a Founder, C-suite, VP, or Director-level design role, including leading teams and building systems used across an organization, while maintaining the craft to create exceptional work yourself.

  • Virtual : Day-to-day, we use Roam, an AI-powered virtual office platform that fosters spontaneous collaboration, drop into meetings or quick chats, and interact with colleagues for a simulated, "live" digital headquarters.
  • In-person : Outside of the option to go to one of our offices, our team gets together in-person for a week every two months, and we have a company retreat every summer.
