Job DescriptionJob DescriptionThe RPN will enhance the effective management and quality of nursing practice daily in keeping with the standards and expectations set out by governing bodies and internal policies and standards of care.For Union Jobs, please refer to the collective agreement and provide the following additional information in the Job Description:Union Name: CUPEUnion Local: Extendicare Crossing BridgeUnion Classification (Title): RPNSalary: RPN Rate as per current collective agreementNursing Schedule: As per collective agreementGeneral Responsibilities1) Ensure care is provided with established nursing standards and principles, physicians’ orders and administrative policies, as well as observe, report and record vital signs, symptoms and conditions of residents / patients. Assure observance of required techniques in nursing care2) Assist in assessing patients/residents and develop, implement, review and evaluate care plans. Monitor health, notes changes in condition and assess need for referral to doctors; processes and implement physicians’ ordersQualifications1) Appropriate current certificate of competence from the Approved Institutions for the province2) Registration or eligible for registration with the Approved Institutions for the province3) Previous supervisory experience in long-term care preferred4) Experience dealing with the cognitively impaired5) Comprehensive knowledge of nursing and health care practices, as well as Knowledge in Infection Control Practices6) Demonstrated commitment to working with seniors7) Ability to present information clearly and effectively both verbally whether in person or over the phone, and in writing; an active listener who projects a friendly demeanour8) Ability to collect and use information to thoroughly think through problems and situations; puts information from various sources together to see the ‘big picture’ and generate creative solutions9) Organizational, planning, time management and multi-tasking skillsTime Type:Part timeAt Extendicare, we’ve spent more than 50 years dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for residents in our long-term care homes across Canada.
