Senior SCADA Engineer

Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior SCADA Engineer to support and enhance critical real-time control systems that enable safe, reliable, and efficient pipeline operations. This role is ideal for a technically strong engineer who thrives in complex operational environments, enjoys solving challenging technical problems, and values collaboration across operations, engineering, IT/OT, cybersecurity, and vendor teams.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and modernizing enterprise SCADA systems, ensuring control room operations remain resilient, compliant, and optimized for performance. This position offers the opportunity to directly influence operational excellence while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and technology modernization programs.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and support enterprise SCADA systems used for real-time monitoring and control of pipeline operations.
• Provide senior-level operational support for SCADA and control systems, including troubleshooting, incident response, and root cause analysis.
• Develop, maintain, and enhance critical real-time applications that support operational safety, reliability, and performance.
• Manage system changes in accordance with Management of Change (MOC) processes and regulatory requirements.
• Perform technical reviews and provide quality assurance for system designs, configurations, testing activities, and production deployments.
• Collaborate closely with control room operations to ensure alignment with alarm management standards, abnormal operating conditions, and human factors considerations.
• Translate business and operational requirements into technical specifications and solution designs.
• Support regulatory compliance initiatives, audits, inspections, and remediation activities.
• Lead lifecycle management and modernization efforts, including upgrades, obsolescence planning, and integration of new assets.
• Support governance, business continuity, disaster recovery, and OT cybersecurity initiatives to maintain resilient control systems.
• Participate in an on-call rotation supporting 24x7 control room operations.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.
• 10+ years of experience working with AVEVA OASyS SCADA and critical real-time control systems within pipeline or industrial operations.
• Strong experience developing and supporting highly available, mission-critical real-time applications.
• Demonstrated expertise troubleshooting complex SCADA and control system issues in operational environments.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in time-sensitive situations.
• Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, mentoring, and collaboration skills.
• Track record of driving innovation, leading technical initiatives, and delivering measurable business value.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting liquids pipeline control center operations.
• Strong knowledge of SCADA architectures and industrial control systems.
• Hands-on development experience using at least one programming language such as: 
  • C#
  • VB.NET
  • SQL
  • Python

• Experience with SCADA display development and visualization standards.
• Knowledge of SCADA communication and measurement protocols.
• Experience with liquids pipeline SCADA configuration and implementation.

Additional Requirements

• Participation in a 24x7 on-call support rotation.
• Availability to support project implementations and operational activities outside standard business hours when required.
