We protect and enhance value through effective risk management by providing a framework to optimize risk-return and enhance stakeholder value creation. Effective risk-taking and risk management are critical to the overall profitability, competitive market positioning and long-term financial viability of the Company. Risks should not necessarily be eliminated but need to be appropriately managed to achieve the Company's overall corporate objectives.

In conducting business activities, the Company takes on those risks that meet the objectives of the organization. Risk management is aligned with the corporate vision, mission and strategy, and is embedded within the business management practices of every business segment.
The Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) team works with various Business Group and Corporate Function partners across the organization, including but not limited to Business Group Risk (eg. Canada, Asia, US, etc), Corporate Functional Areas (eg. Legal, HR, Corporate Strategy, etc) and other teams in Corporate Risk. Amongst our key accountabilities, we strive to create and build effective relationships with these groups in order to improve the understanding of the benefits of working with the risk function when making key business decisions.
This position offers an exciting opportunity for the Risk Analyst to play a critical role on Sun Life's Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) team within the Corporate Risk Office. The Risk Analyst will complete research on current and emerging risks that have the potential to impact Sun Life as well as provide operational support for key reporting deliverables.
What will you do?
Assist in overseeing the Enterprise Risk Framework to provide independent oversight, ensuring all significant enterprise risks are appropriately identified, managed, measured, monitored and reported
In tandem with the ERM team, analyze external and competitor risk management information to assess, recommend areas of enhancement in Sun Life's external risk disclosures, and risk management practices
Assist in providing risk advisory for key projects when necessary, including industry surveys, mandate reviews and the coordination of responses to Rating Agency briefing documents
Provide operational support for key reporting deliverables as needed. This includes interacting with key business group risk teams to communicate and align deliverables
Assist with the annual Risk Disclosures within Sun Life's Annual Report (MD&A, AIF and Financial Statement notes). Includes interaction with Corporate Finance and Legal as well as use of third party software (Workiva)
Support the implementation and maintenance of risk metrics reporting in the Risk and Compliance software (Archer)
Complete the quarterly compliance reporting for the Risk Management Corporate Functional Area, including the Effectiveness Assessment and the Regulatory Compliance Management (RCM) Compliance testing
Identify opportunities to improve our processes efficiency using innovative software
Ad hoc requests as necessary
What do you need to succeed?
University degree or equivalent in Business, Management, Accounting, Engineering is an asset
Advanced time management and organizational skills
Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
Results oriented team player
Strong attention to detail
Willingness to learn
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite of applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook). Experience with Microsoft SharePoint is an asset
Experience in process mapping as well as identification and assessment of processes is an asset
Experience completing and summarizing market research is an asset

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
