Senior Piping Stress Engineer

Senior Piping Stress Engineer | Edmonton, AB

Capital Engineering is seeking a highly experienced Senior Piping Stress Engineer with strong expertise in ASME B31.1 (Power Piping), ASME B31.3 (Process Piping) and CSA Z662 (Oil & Gas Pipelines) to join the Edmonton team. This role requires a well-rounded engineer who can not only perform advanced piping flexibility and stress analysis but also provide technical support for piping/mechanical design.

The ideal candidate is adaptable and comfortable working across disciplines, including stress analysis, material requisitions, datasheets, and general mechanical/piping engineering tasks.

What You’ll Do

Piping Stress & Analysis

• Perform piping stress and flexibility analysis using CAESAR II
• Ensure compliance with ASME B31.1 and B31.3 and CSA Z662
• Analyze load cases including sustained, thermal, occasional, and dynamic loads
• Evaluate nozzle loads and interface forces on equipment
• Lug designs, custom pipe support analysis
• Develop stress models, reports, and mitigation strategies

Piping & Mechanical Technical Support

• Support piping design, layout optimization, and routing decisions
• Assist with equipment interface and mechanical design coordination
• Review and stamping of isometrics to ensure compliance with project requirements
• Provide field engineering support and troubleshooting (as required)

Material Requisition & Engineering Support

• Review Material Take-Offs (MTOs) and prepare Material Requisitions (MRs)
• Support piping class/specification selection and material selection
• Ensure technical accuracy of procurement packages (valves, fittings, piping materials)
• Review vendor drawings and ensure compliance with project requirements
• Interface with procurement and vendors on technical queries
• Contribute to bid evaluations and technical clarifications

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
• P.Eng. (APEGA) or eligible for registration
• 8+ years of relevant experience in piping stress analysis
• Strong knowledge of ASME B31.1, B31.3 and CSA Z662
• Proficiency in CAESAR II (preferred) or equivalent tools
• Experience with dynamic analysis (vibration, relief loads, slug flow, etc.)
• Experience in material requisitions, and piping specifications
• Solid understanding of piping components, materials, and support systems (including specification and selection of engineered spring supports, hangers etc.)
• Background in EPC, consulting, or owner-operator environments, preferred
• Familiarity with 3D modeling tools (SmartPlant, Navisworks etc.), preferred
• Experience supporting procurement and vendor coordination, preferred
• Experience with API 570 (Level 1 & 2 assessments), preferred
