Overview
The Department of Psychiatry in Nanaimo is seeking a part‑time General Psychiatrist to provide services with the Complex Care Housing Team.
Responsibilities
- Provide psychiatric services for at least 44 weeks per year, working an average of approximately 7.5 hours per week (≈330 hours per year, equivalent to 0.2 FTE).
- Manage a patient population of up to 30 adult patients experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity, addressing moderate to severe mental health, substance use, and chronic medical comorbidities.
- Collaborate with other physicians, nurse practitioners, case managers, nurses, and addiction medicine physicians in a community‑based in‑reach team.
- Perform psychiatric assessment, case formulation, and medication management for patients with a range of psychiatric disorders.
- Attend departmental and multidisciplinary meetings and participate in training of medical students and residents.
- Participate in on‑call duties, averaging one weekend day every 4–6 weeks as required for Island Health Psychiatrists.
Qualifications
- Board‑certified psychiatrist.
- Experience with populations that have complex medical and psychiatric needs.
- Ability to coordinate care with community agencies and stakeholders.
- Eligibility to obtain a clinical appointment under the Island Medical Program.
