Bilingual Intercountry Social Worker position (BSW/MSW)

Part-time contract for 6 months (2 to 3 days per week) with possibility of permanency

Hybrid model (minimum 1 day a week in the office)

Job Outline:

ISS Canada is the Canadian branch of the International Social Service network. Our social workers help to resolve cases involving child protection, children in care, unaccompanied children, and vulnerable adults when a case crosses international borders. ISS Canada social workers offer advice and guidance to individuals and local authorities and help to link social work services between Canada and other countries.

Key responsibilities:

To manage a caseload of allocated cases originating from Canada or overseas:

• Offer advice and guidance to referrers on good practice in international child protection casework
• Assess cases referred to ISS Canada, identifying the intervention required and the resources/agency to undertake it
• Manage some intakes, reviewing reports, ensuring completion of services, keeping files updated and organized, and participating in supervision.
• Liaise with social service agencies in Canada and professionals in other countries to obtain services, such as: assessments, tracing, obtaining documents and child welfare record checks, etc.
• Perform organizational: includes keeping records of partners of the network and information organized and up to date, manage caseload, managing light financial tasks related to caseload.
• Contribute with the development of the organization and bring additional strengths to the team.
• Prepare information for referral abroad or to an agency in Canada
• Establish, develop and maintain good relationships with clients and/or agencies in Canada and overseas to ensure the progression of cases to resolution
• Ensure smooth implementation of finance systems including invoicing for casework
• Ensure that all cases are dealt with in a manner consistent with ISS guidelines and good practice standards
• Collate and compile data on country information
• Input new case referrals to electronic case system
• Monitor emails enquiries and referrals
• Participate in team meetings
• Actively participate in regular supervision meetings

To be adaptable and willing to take on new roles and responsibilities as the services of ISS Canada develop in response to the changing needs of the office and the network

Essential:

• Bachelors or Masters Degree level education with 2-5 years work experience
• Understanding of the local (national) and international rights of children and families
• Understanding of the needs of children separated from their families and at risk of harm
• Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality
• Be self-motivated and able to work independently
• Ability to establish good relationships with service users and stakeholders
• Reliability and commitment
• I.T. literate (Sharepoint, Word, Excel and Outlook)
• Ability to plan, record and evaluate through recording and written reports
• Ability to prioritise workload
• Ability to work as part of a team

· Strong English and French written and spoken is required. Spanish written and spoken is a desired asset.

· Strong organization and time management skill

· Strong written and oral communication skills

· Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

· Flexible and proactive traits are helpful in our fast-paced routine

Desirable:

• Work experience in relevant child protection and family work
• Fluency in Spanish or another language
• Good presentation skills
• Experience of working with vulnerable children or adults
