The Lead Finance Specialist (Capital Projects & Fixed Assets) provides specialized financial leadership and oversight for capital projects, project accounting, capital assets, and related financial controls across the organization. This role is responsible for ensuring that project expenditures, capital investments, and fixed assets are accurately recorded, appropriately governed, and compliant with accounting standards, organizational policies, and internal control requirements.

As the primary finance lead for project accounting and fixed asset management, the role serves as a key advisor to Finance leadership and works closely with project teams, FP&A, operational leaders, procurement, technology, and finance system stakeholders. The Lead Finance Specialist supports informed decision-making through technical accounting guidance, financial governance, capital reporting, compliance oversight, and continuous improvement of project and asset accounting processes.

In this role, you will :

Capital Project Accounting & Governance

• Act as the primary finance lead for project accounting and capital investment accounting.
• Establish and maintain project financial structures, cost tracking frameworks, and accounting requirements.
• Review project expenditures and assess capitalization eligibility in accordance with accounting standards and organizational policies.
• Monitor project costs and capital spending to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
• Provide accounting guidance related to project costs, capitalization, amortization, disposals, and project close-out activities.
• Support development and maintenance of project accounting policies, procedures, and governance frameworks.

Fixed Asset Management

• Maintain oversight of the full fixed asset lifecycle, including acquisitions, capitalization, transfers, disposals, impairments, and amortization.
• Ensure the completeness and accuracy of the fixed asset register.
• Review and reconcile capital asset and construction-in-progress balances.
• Support physical asset verification activities and asset reviews.
• Ensure asset records are supported by appropriate documentation and approvals.

Compliance, Controls & Accounting Stewardship

• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, organizational policies, delegation authorities, and internal control requirements.
• Design, implement, and monitor controls related to project accounting and fixed assets.
• Maintain audit-ready documentation and accounting support.
• Coordinate responses to internal and external audit requests related to projects and capital assets.
• Identify control gaps, compliance risks, and opportunities for process improvement.

D365 & Financial Process Ownership

• Act as Finance process owner for project accounting and fixed asset accounting within D365.
• Support system configurations, testing, enhancements, and process improvements affecting project and capital accounting.
• Partner with Finance Systems, IT, Procurement, and operational stakeholders to improve data quality, reporting, and process effectiveness.
• Develop and maintain accounting procedures, guidance materials, and training resources.

Stakeholder Support & Continuous Improvement

• Provide technical accounting guidance to project managers, business leaders, and Finance partners.
• Support consistent application of capitalization policies and project accounting requirements across the organization.
• Develop reporting, reconciliations, and monitoring tools that strengthen financial governance.
• Recommend improvements to processes, controls, and reporting practices.

What Success Looks Like in This Role

A successful Lead Finance Specialist (Capital Projects & Fixed Assets) will:

• Ensure capital projects and fixed assets are accurately accounted for and supported by appropriate documentation.
• Maintain a strong and effective control environment over project accounting and capital assets.
• Deliver timely, accurate, and reliable capital and fixed asset reporting.
• Be recognized as the organization's subject matter expert for project accounting and capital asset accounting.
• Support successful audits with minimal findings related to projects or fixed assets.
• Improve consistency, compliance, and governance across capital project processes.
• Partner effectively with FP&A, project sponsors, and operational leaders while maintaining accounting integrity.

What we are looking for:

• 8-12 years of relevant experience in accounting, finance, capital project accounting, fixed assets, or financial management.
• CPA designation required.
• Strong knowledge of ASNPO and capital asset accounting requirements.
• Experience supporting large capital projects, technology implementations, ERP projects, or infrastructure investments.
• Experience with project accounting and fixed asset modules within ERP systems, preferably D365.
• Strong accounting, internal control, reconciliation, and audit support experience.
• Effective communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills.
