Salary & Benefits

Salary range (but not limited to): 161,600 - 197,500

Annual bonus target 20% (subject to personal and company performance, potential payout up to double the target)

Salary for the candidate will be determined taking into consideration a number of factors including: experience, skills, qualifications, anticipated contribution to role, internal equity, etc. The salary range presented above is based on a 35-hour workweek and would represent a majority of different candidate profiles. However, we encourage candidates who may fall outside of this range to apply as well.

About the role

We are seeking a highly experienced and technically proficient Principal, Software Engineering, to lead complex engineering efforts and guide architectural decisions across the portfolio. This role combines deep technical expertise with strategic thinking, business acumen and mentorship, playing a critical part in driving innovation and delivering scalable, reliable systems.

Principal Engineer will focus on solving complex business problems by leveraging fit‑for‑purpose technologies not limited to API, microservices, cloud, SAAS, AI and additionally on improving software engineering processes, optimizing time‑to‑market, and mentoring software engineers across organization.

What you’ll do here

• Own the technology direction and roadmap for the technology assets for Finance & Reinsurance.
• Collaborate closely with senior leadership and principals to develop and implement strategic initiatives and roadmaps that drive innovation, enhance efficiency, and contribute to maintaining the competitive edge in the market.
• Own the Platform performance, scalability and other aspects.
• Serve as the technical authority and decision‑maker for key architecture and design initiatives, especially those that are of high risk or new technology.
• Act as a Force Multiplier: leverage your extensive expertise to enhance the productivity and effectiveness of the entire engineering team. Foster a culture of innovation and excellence by mentoring colleagues, streamlining processes, introducing best practices, and driving architectural improvements that enable the team to deliver high‑quality solutions efficiently.
• Hands on keyboard technical proficiency. Serve as a trusted advisor, leveraging technical expertise to own and make strategic decisions and initiatives, and play an important role in elevating technical decision‑making processes and act as a technological leader.
• Promote cross‑team collaboration and drive technical direction across teams, functions, and products, ensuring decisions support overall business and technology strategy.
• Develop shared software engineering frameworks, APIs, and toolkits to streamline integration into production applications.
• Define and enforce software engineering best practices, ensuring consistency across model development, deployment, and monitoring.
• Identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement and act as an agent of change by championing innovative ideas and initiatives to improve processes.
• Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies and best practices, assess the potential impact of new technologies on the organization and recommend adoption strategies.
• Coordinate with experts in various technical forums, both internally and externally. Recognized as an active member of the tech community and promotes technology within and outside the organization.

What you bring to the table

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of experience in software development, with at least 3+ years in technical leadership role.
• Strong understanding of software architecture principles and system design patterns and AI/ML concepts and frameworks.
• Extensive expertise in Oracle Fusion ERP, Oracle EPM and Oracle FDI.
• Expertise in implementing IFRS17 solutions such as SAS IFRS17 or other IFRS17 solutions.
• Expertise in data technologies such as Databricks, Python, Informatica Intelligent Cloud services (CAI & CDI).
• Deep expertise with Angular, Java, Spring, Spring Boot, Database (SQL & NoSQL) and experience with Cloud platforms (such as AWS, Azure, GCP), microservices, and distributed systems.
• Proven ability to design scalable, resilient systems in production environments.
• Extensive knowledge of DevSecOps and observability tools.
• Proven leadership in mentoring software engineers and building global technical communities.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to navigate ambiguity.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills to bridge the gap between software development teams and business leaders.
• For candidates located in Quebec, bilingualism is required considering the necessity to interact on a regular basis with English‑speaking colleagues across the country.
• No Canadian work experience required, however must be eligible to work in Canada.
