Recovery Navigator (Temporary Part-Time)

We also provide community leadership and development in overdose response planning, poverty reduction planning, and other projects that develop a more connected and resilient community.

The Position

The Recovery Navigator supports people who use substances by helping them access services, information, and social supports, while encouraging wellness and harm reduction practices. Working within a trauma-informed, client-centered, and harm reduction framework, the Recovery Navigator contributes to a welcoming and inclusive space by coordinating care, connecting clients with recovery pathways, and collaborating with staff, peers, families, and community partners.

Qualifications

• Grade 12
• Certificate in Community Social Service or related field.
• Recent, related experience of one (1) year.
• Knowledge of harm reduction, trauma-informed practice, and recovery models.
• Awareness of barriers, systemic issues, and health inequities affecting people who use substances.
• Knowledge of Indigenous cultural safety, traditional healing, and 2SLGBTQIA+ supports.
• Basic computer literacy and familiarity with client databases.
• Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check clearance.

Skills and Assets

• Strong knowledge of harm reduction, trauma-informed practice, and recovery models.
• Ability to build trusting, respectful, and non-judgmental relationships with participants.
• Experience with client intake, goal setting, person-centered action planning, and service navigation.
• Knowledge of community resources, including health, housing, substance use, and recovery services.
• Strong understanding of systemic barriers, health inequities, and culturally safe practices.
• Ability to respond to medical emergencies in accordance with training and protocols.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
• Strong organizational, documentation, and computer skills, including client database management.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, client-centered environment.

Working Condition and Physical Requirements

• 35 hour work week
• Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in an active environment with exposure to pets, drug paraphernalia, and substance use.
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.
• This job includes frequent exposure to pets, drug paraphernalia including sharps, and illicit substance use.
