Range of Pay: Group 13* - $37.89 to $46.37 per hour

Main Function

Under the general supervision of the Manager of Library and Heritage Resources, this position is responsible for the development, coordination, and evaluation of the library’s collections across all formats, including physical, digital, and non-traditional lending (e.g., 3D collections, equipment).

• Support high-quality public services which achieve Greater Sudbury Public Library’s (GSPL) mission, vision, and strategic objectives.

Duties

• Lead the development of the library’s physical, digital and non-traditional lending collections including replacement purchases, excessive holds, purchase suggestions, and gap orders.
• Liaise with internal and external interest holders in the development of special collections (e.g., local history, accessibility, emerging technology, children’s).
• Provide guidance, make recommendations and participate in collection evaluation and building including recommendations on evolving formats.
• Assist with the maintenance of branch collections in response to current and future needs of the community including but not limited to floating, rebalancing and weeding.
• Evaluate gifts and donations.
• Monitor major literary trends and current events to ensure the collection contains new, popular and relevant titles. Promote the use of collections through collaboration with the Children’s Librarian and marketing, programming, and patron experience personnel.
• Recommend budget allocation for collections.
• Cultivates and maintains productive, long-term vendor relations.
• Support operational and strategic projects.
• Participate in library and external committees and/or working groups to achieve the goals of the library.
• Contributes to the creation and delivery of training within area of responsibility (i.e., reader’s advisory). Provide reader’s advisory service and answer reference questions in person, by telephone or electronically.
• Instruct internal and external clients in the use of the library and associated search methods.
• Resolve complaints from the general public within pre-set parameters.
• Secure premises and set security system alarm.
• Provide relief as required for the Coordinator of Library Collections.
• Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of the City’s Health and Safety policies and the applicable provincial legislation listed therein.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education and Training

• Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from a recognized university with Canadian accreditation.

Experience

• Two and one-half (2½) years up to and including five (5) years of library experience

Other Requirements

• Knowledge of best practices within areas of responsibility.
• Knowledge of library services and operations.
• Knowledge of various computer applications including Windows based systems (i.e. word processing and spreadsheet software, file transfer process, files maintenance, information input and retrieval and the internet).
• Knowledge of library automated systems.
• Ability to demonstrate interpersonal skills in dealing with the public in a courteous and effective manner.
• Ability to demonstrate problem solving and research skills.
• Ability to demonstrate organizational skills and attention to detailed work.
• Ability to demonstrate accurate keyboarding skills.
• Knowledge of book trade and publishing trends for public library clients.
• Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
• French verbal and written skills an asset.
• Ability to perform the essential duties of the position.
• Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and accountability in meeting job responsibilities.
• Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid Class G driver’s license, and have an acceptable driving record.

Development opportunity range of pay: Group 12* - $35.12 to $44.31 per hour. The successful candidate will be paid at the reduced range until the minimum qualifications have been met.
