Position Information

This position presents an excellent opportunity to join the Clinical Services team at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI).

Position Information

Temporary position until approximately October 15, 2027.

Rotation/Shifts

Days, Monday to Friday, 8 hour shifts.

What You Will Do

Clinical Care responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

• Establishment of therapeutic relationships with patients and families to facilitate assessment, diagnosis, management, and therapeutic interventions of patients, using best practices, and to the NP scope of practice;
• Optimization of patient's health conditions prior to admission to hospital;
• Prevention, early identification, and management of complications while hospitalized
• In hospital management/optimization of existing co-morbid illnesses
• Optimization of pain management
• Activities related to prevention and treatment of nosocomial complications (e.g., pressure ulcers, delirium, falls, injury related to restraint-use)
• Promoting and performing safety initiatives (e.g., medication reconciliation)
• Planning for and facilitating timely and safe discharge and transfer of accountability to community caregivers
• Provision of enhanced communication with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members, particularly at transition points in care (admission, transfer, discharge)
• Discharge patients from inpatient care
• Participation and leadership of direct/indirect patient care activities including but not limited to patient/family and/or staff education,
• Removal of pacer wires, removal of chest tubes, wound care, interdisciplinary rounds, quality improvement initiatives, etc.

Basic Requirements

• Master degree in Nursing;
• Certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario;
• Current certification/licensure as a Nurse Practitioner RN (Extended Class);
• Two (2) years in an acute care;
• Minimum of 3-5 years relevant clinical experience working in acute cardiac care with both extensive cardiology and cardiac surgery patient care environments;
• Licensed to prescribe controlled substances;
• Experience in working independently within an interdisciplinary team;
• Member of RNAO and NPAO;
• Demonstrated organizational, conceptual and leadership skills;
• Demonstrated advanced practice skills and competence in interpersonal relationships, problem solving, collaboration and innovation;
• Effective and concise communication, both orally and in writing;
• Eligible to work in Canada.

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum two years experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Advanced Practice Nurse;
• Certificate in Cardiovascular Nursing;
• Proficiency in English and French oral expression (level 4 - advanced) and comprehension (level 4 - advanced).
