Position Title: Education Assistant, In-Home & In-Class, VICTORIA

Schedule: In-Class, WEDNESDAY, 9:00 am - 2:00 pm, In-Home 6 hours/flexible

We bring the RCAS mission to life as a Provincial Online Learning School, offering innovative onsite and virtual programming across British Columbia. Key Responsibilities:

Overview: 

IN-HOME : As the EA, you will play a vital role in carrying out pre-planned lessons and life skills activities that cater to the unique requirements of your students. Your dedication and commitment will be instrumental in helping students with therapy follow-up, engaging them in home learning activities and virtual programming, and collaborating effectively as part of a cohesive team. The children have a range of learning and behavioural needs that require a compassionate and flexible EA. As an EA, you will receive support from therapists, a home learning support teacher, parents, and our Special Education Coordinator. This collaborative environment will enable you to thrive in your role and make a significant difference in the lives of your students.

IN-CLASS : Educational Assistants are key members of our dynamic classroom teams. They assist in our inclusive classrooms to ensure all students, including those with disabilities, are supported and benefit from learning activities and instruction. They will also help the classroom teacher with a variety of organization tasks such as taking attendance, preparing learning materials and directing small groups.

Core Competencies 

- Model a Christian Walk: Serve as a safe, trusted, and supportive adult , modelling an exemplary Christian walk in speech and action as a living example to the student body. 

-  Foster Student Independence: Provide academic, social, emotional, and spiritual support by skillfully scaffolding tasks to encourage maximum student independence.

-  Advocate for Inclusion: Actively advocate for student inclusion within the home or community according to the Individual Education Plan (IEP) and create opportunities for students to be meaningfully integrated into the school community.

-  Develop Self-Advocacy: Guide students in gaining the necessary skills to advocate for their own learning preferences and personal needs.

-  Provide Unstructured Support: Deliver critical social-emotional and self-regulation supports during transitions and break-times to ensure student well-being outside of formal instruction.

-  Execute Interventions: Implement specific interventions and supports as mandated by the IEP and School-Based Team (SBT) .

-  Prepare Materials: Assist in preparing lesson materials and adaptations specifically related to identified student needs, as guided by the Teacher or Inclusive Education Coordinator (IEC) , if time permits.

-  Supervise Routines: Supervise learning routines with authority and diligence, following the direction of the parent.

-  Contribute to IEPs: Attend IEP meetings and provide professional observations and data to inform the development of goals and desired student outcomes.

-  Collect Evidence of Learning: Gather evidence of student progress to assist teachers in assessment and the generation of IEP progress reports .

-  Maintain Documentation: Rigorously contribute to logs and data collection for students with behaviour plans or specialized requirements.

-  Pursue Professional Growth: Proactively develop expertise in specialized areas and pedagogical frameworks, such as Universal Design for Learning (UDL) , to support diverse learners.

-  Engage in Self-Assessment: Conduct regular self-assessments of job performance and maintain a portfolio of evidence regarding personal and professional growth.

-  Faith Integration: Model a profound love for Christ and students, maintaining a high standard of Christian conduct both during and outside of school hours.

Compensation & Benefits:

●       Pay: CA $24.05/hour - $30.32/hour

●       Benefits: Extended Health & Dental, Pension plan available upon eligibility.

Requirements & Qualifications:

Experience and/or EA certification are highly valued for this role, as they demonstrate a solid foundation in supporting students with diverse learning needs. However, we also welcome candidates who possess a strong interest, related experience, or relevant training, coupled with a genuine willingness to learn and grow in this field. We are seeking individuals who embody Christian values and possess an empathetic nature. We value individuals who exhibit flexibility, creativity, patience, and enthusiasm. Experience working with school-aged children, along with a background in special needs, is advantageous but not required.
