Compensation

  • Electrician: $39.09 to $42.51 per hour
  • Plumber: $35.57 to $38.70 per hour
  • Carpenter: $33.82 to $36.78 per hour
  • Cabinetmaker Instructor: $35.18 to $38.23 per hour

Plus applicable allowances (rate varies by position).

Duties

Provide instruction and training to offenders in the specified trade.

Organization

Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is part of the criminal justice system. CorpCAN is a Special Operating Agency within CSC dedicated to providing employability skills, employment and training opportunities, vocational certification, and employment support services to offenders.

Education

  • Carpenter – valid Provincial or Inter‑provincial Journeyman Certificate as a Carpenter.
  • Cabinetmaker Instructor – valid certificate of qualification as a Cabinetmaker, Industrial Woodworker or related trade.
  • Plumber – valid Provincial or Inter‑provincial Journeyman Certificate as a Plumber.
  • Electrician – valid Provincial or Inter‑provincial Journeyman Certificate as an Electrician.

Experience

  • Instruction in a construction‑related educational environment.
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and construction specifications.
  • Creating and maintaining project schedules.
  • Proficiency with software such as AutoCAD, MS Project, or similar.
  • Estimation of materials, equipment needs, and job costing.
  • Residential construction experience.
  • Masonry, concrete foundation and form work experience.
  • Window, door, flooring or roofing projects experience.
  • High‑pressure steam distribution systems experience.
  • Residential and/or commercial heating appliance systems experience.
  • Experience in a correctional environment, directly with offenders.
  • Experience with CNC operations and/or programming.
  • Wood finishing experience.
