What the Role Involves – On & Off the Fireground

• Respond to fire, rescue, and medical emergencies as part of a coordinated team

  • Perform daily duties and assignments under the direction of officers and company leaders
  • Participate in ongoing fire, rescue, and medical training
  • Conduct equipment inspections, maintenance, and readiness checks
  • Maintain station cleanliness and operational preparedness
  • Deliver professional, respectful, and effective public interactions
  • Support fire prevention activities, inspections, and community education initiatives
  • Use fire records management systems (e.g., FDM) and digital reporting tools
  • Follow established operational procedures, medical protocols, and safety standards
  • Attend shift briefings, meetings, and scheduled training sessions
  • Actively contribute to a respectful, inclusive, and psychologically safe workplace
  • Commit to personal fitness, mental wellness, and professional development

Required Qualifications – Must Have

• Eligible to work in Canada (see eligibility details below)

  • Grade 12 or equivalent (GED)
  • Minimum two (2) years of relevant work experience
  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter I and II Certification (IFSAC or Pro Board)
  • Valid First Responder (FR) / Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) licence or higher (BC

EMA or equivalent)

  • Valid Class 3 B.C. Driver’s Licence (or equivalent), with the ability to obtain a B.C. licence

upon hire

  • Clean driver’s abstract (minimum 3 years)
  • Physically and medically fit to perform firefighter duties

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience in emergency services (fire, EMS, police, Coast Guard), wildfire service, military,

healthcare, or search & rescue

  • Firefighter work experience program completion
  • Additional NFPA certifications (e.g., 1021 Fire Officer I, 1041 Instructor I)
  • Post-secondary education or trades certification
  • Demonstrated community involvement or volunteer service

Recruitment Process - Shortlisted Candidates

Candidates selected to move forward will be required to complete:

  • Online psychological suitability and resiliency assessment
  • In-person multi-day evaluation in Prince Rupert ( August 6 and 7, 2026), including:

o Physical fitness evaluation

o Practical skills assessment (NFPA 1001 aligned)

o Written firefighter aptitude exam

Candidates must also provide

  • Proof of all certifications and education
  • Police Information Check (Vulnerable Sector)
  • Current driver’s abstract

Additional Information

• Candidates are responsible for travel costs associated with recruitment and testing

  • Successful candidates must relocate to Prince Rupert prior to starting employment
  • Relocation assistance may be provided in accordance with City of Prince Rupert policies

Compensation

Wage Rate: $ 7,514.00 per month – first 6 months, then indexed according to Schedule A of

the current IAFF 559 Collective Agreement.
