Western Arctic Moving Pictures (WAMP) is a community-based, non-profit arts organization dedicated to supporting film, media arts, and storytelling in the Western Arctic. Through workshops, festivals, artist development, and community programming, WAMP fosters creativity, celebrates northern voices, and strengthens connections across the region.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, organized, and community-minded Executive Director to lead the organization into its next chapter.
About the Role
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, financial management, fundraising, and implementation of WAMP’s Strategic Plan. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about arts, culture, and community development and enjoys working in a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
Organizational Leadership
- Lead the day-to-day operations of WAMP.
- Implement the organization's strategic priorities and annual work plan.
- Advise and support the Board of Directors and its committees, attending occasional evening and weekend meetings.
- Develop, maintain, and implement organizational policies and procedures.
- Recruit, supervise, and support staff, contractors, and volunteers.
- Foster positive relationships with community organizations, artists, government agencies, and partners.
- Represent WAMP as a spokesperson and advocate within the community and beyond.
Programming & Community Engagement
- Support the planning and delivery of workshops, screenings, and special events.
- Lead planning and delivery of the Yellowknife International Film Festival.
- Work collaboratively with staff and partners to achieve organizational goals.
- Build awareness of WAMP's programs and services through outreach and community engagement.
Fundraising & Financial Management
- Lead annual fundraising and grant development efforts.
- Research and pursue new funding opportunities.
- Prepare grant applications and required reports.
- Manage organizational budgets and financial reporting.
- Carry out bookkeeping functions and ensure accurate and sound financial practices.
- Work closely with the Board President and Treasurer on financial oversight.
Qualifications
We welcome candidates with a combination of education, experience, and lived knowledge who can demonstrate:
- Leadership experience in a non-profit, arts, cultural, or community organization.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Experience with budgeting and financial management.
- Proven expertise in grant writing, with a demonstrated track record of securing grant funding.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with diverse communities and stakeholders.
- Experience supervising staff and working collaboratively with boards or committees.
- Passion for arts, media, culture, and community development.
- Experience living or working in northern, Indigenous, or remote communities is considered a strong asset.
- A degree in the fields of finance, non-profit management, or business would also be considered a strong asset.
