Transportation Construction/Site Supervisor – Alberta public infrastructure team
Role Summary
We are seeking a Transportation Construction/Site Supervisor to lead construction supervision and contract administration for road and highway projects. The role requires proven experience in highway grading, base, and paving projects and the ability to manage schedule and cost objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure contractors fully understand contractual obligations and project requirements.
- Supervise a staff of 3–5 surveyors, testers, quantity checkers and scalers.
- Identify progress issues, quality or performance deficiencies, and recommend solutions.
- Monitor project schedule and costs, update reports, and address issues proactively.
- Prepare monthly contract progress payment documents, forecast and manage changes.
- Monitor and inspect construction to confirm quality and design conformance.
- Review and manage technical submittals (shop drawings, RFIs, RFCs, work plans).
- Address issues in a timely and cost‑effective manner.
- Maintain effective documentation through Daily and Weekly Reports, Monthly Status Reports, Change Requests, Claims, Negotiations, Extra Work Orders.
- Act as the owner’s representative during construction and liaise with regulatory agencies, government and landowners.
Qualifications
- Technical Diploma or equivalent in construction.
- Direct contract administration experience with Transportation and Economic Corridors and rural municipality projects, having completed projects valued from $5million to over $20million.
- Strong construction background; supervised at least 2 highway construction projects, including cold milling, drainage improvements, traffic accommodation and lighting installation.
- 10+ years of construction experience in Alberta.
- Knowledge of Transportation and Economic Corridors specifications, estimating, contract preparation and administration.
- Experience with materials inspection/testing requirements and quantity surveying.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
- Strong attention to detail, problem‑solving and time‑management skills.
- Valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle with registration and insurance.
- Ability to travel to project sites throughout Alberta.
