Job Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mold Surfacer to join our Engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and refining 3D surface models for plastic injection and compression molds, ensuring the production of high-quality, cost-effective parts that meet or exceed customer specifications. This role requires expertise in Visi software and a strong understanding of mold design principles.

Key Responsibilities:

• Create and refine complex 3D surface models using Visi Software, based on design data and mold design requirements.
• Analyze customer CAD data and part geometry to identify surfacing requirements for mold tooling.
• Generate parting surfaces, shut-offs, and complex trim surfaces that meet both functional and aesthetic criteria.
• Perform feasibility checks on part surfaces and implement necessary changes to support effective mold design and manufacturing.
• Collaborate closely with mold designers, toolmakers, and engineers to ensure surfacing aligns with tooling strategy and customer specifications.
• Modify surfaces in response to engineering changes or design feedback during reviews.
• Ensure all surface models are clean, closed, and manufacturable for CNC milling and mold building.
• Maintain documentation of changes and ensure version control of surface files.
• Meet deadlines and quality standards in a fast-paced, high-precision environment.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma (Grade 12) or equivalent; post-secondary training in CAD/CAM or mold design is an asset.
• 3-5 years of experience in mold surfacing using Visi Software or equivalent surfacing tools.
• Strong understanding of mold construction, parting line development, and surface quality standards.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and CAD files.
• Excellent attention to detail and precision in surface creation.
• Strong problem-solving and time management skills.
• Experience with automotive Class A surfacing or complex geometry is a plus.
• Willingness to work overtime if required to meet project deadlines.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $25.00 per hour
