SUMMARY

The Direct Support Staff works under the direction of the Executive Director and in collaboration with the Director of Ministry, Activity, Staff, and Food Services. The primary responsibility of this role is to provide direct care and support to residents at Choose Life Ministry’s Homestead for Hope. Direct Support Staff work closely with residents to foster personal development, spiritual growth, and life skills, while promoting a safe, structured, and supportive environment.

MINISTRY OVERVIEW

Choose Life Ministry is a small, biblically-based, residential program for women seeking freedom from life-controlling issues, located in a rural setting in Southeastern Saskatchewan. At Choose Life Ministry, everything we do is centered on our faith in God and the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We uphold the highest level of integrity in our staff and operate according to the values of love, trust, excellence, accountability, and freedom.

A GLIMPSE OF YOUR DAY

A typical day as Direct Support Staff is active, relational, and purpose-driven. You begin your shift by reviewing logs and connecting with the outgoing staff member to ensure continuity of care. Throughout the day, you will supervise residents, engage in conversations, and provide encouragement and accountability as they work through their program.

You will participate alongside residents in daily rhythms such as devotions, teaching sessions, meals, work projects, and recreational activities. At times, you may transport residents to appointments or accompany them to scheduled programming. You will remain attentive to the environment, ensuring it is safe, clean, and structured.

No two days are exactly the same. You may help navigate interpersonal conflicts, respond to unexpected situations, or support a resident through a difficult moment. Throughout it all, you serve as a steady, consistent presence—modeling Christ-like character while helping residents grow in stability, confidence, and faith.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Work in alignment with the mission, vision, and core values of Choose Life Ministry.
• Supervise residents daily, ensuring their safety, well-being, and adherence to program guidelines.
• Maintain appropriate boundaries, enforce rules, and apply discipline when necessary.
• Support and mentor residents in their spiritual, emotional, and personal development.
• Communicate effectively with residents and staff to ensure consistent and coordinated care.
• Respond appropriately to resident and facility emergencies.
• Maintain a working knowledge of program procedures and standards as outlined in the Resident Handbook.
• Demonstrate sound judgment, flexibility, and problem-solving in a dynamic environment.

GENERAL DUTIES

• Attend and participate in staff meetings.
• Maintain required communication tools (e.g., cell phone, keys) during shifts.
• Maintain accurate documentation, including resident progress notes, daily logs, and incident reports.
• Administer and record medications in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Support the daily operations of the home, including transportation, cleanliness, and resident routines.
• Perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Demonstrates strong Christian character and a commitment to biblical principles.
• Basic biblical knowledge and willingness to support faith-based programming.
• Ability to lead effectively in a demanding, client-focused ministry environment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a positive team attitude.
• Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
• Demonstrates professionalism, maturity, and responsible behavior.
• Proficient in communication via phone, text, email, and in person.
• Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, including extended periods of standing and sitting.
• Minimum of 1–3 years of relevant experience in a related field is preferred.
• First Aid, ASIST, Non-Violent Intervention, or Crisis Prevention certifications are considered assets.
• Completion of the Freedom Session discipleship course (or willingness to complete) as part of the ministry program.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

• Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
• Minimum Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
• Proof of qualifications must be provided upon hire.

SALARY & BENEFITS

Salary and benefits are negotiable and will be determined based on qualifications and experience ranging between $20 and $25 per hour.
