Estimator – Residential Homebuilding

Position Overview

The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for residential construction projects. This role plays a key part in supporting sales, construction, and purchasing teams by ensuring budgets align with design, pricing, and market conditions. The Estimator will work within a production/semi-custom environment, leveraging standard plans while accommodating selected upgrades and options.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for new home construction based on plans, specifications, and selected option
  • Analyze drawings and specifications to determine material, labour, and equipment requirement
  • Develop and maintain base house pricing, option pricing, and upgrade cost structure
  • Collaborate with sales and design teams to ensure accurate pricing for customer selection
  • Solicit, review, and compare trade and supplier quotes to ensure cost competitivenes
  • Maintain and update estimating databases, cost libraries, and historical pricin
  • identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering alternative
  • Monitor cost trends, material fluctuations, and market condition
  • Support budgeting and forecasting for upcoming projects and communities
  • Work closely with construction and purchasing teams to ensure estimates align with actual build costs
  • Assist in resolving discrepancies between estimated and actual costs

Qualification

  • Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience
  • 2-5+ years of residential construction estimating experience (production or semi-custom homebuilding preferre
  • Strong understanding of residential construction methods, materials, and process
  • Experience reading and interpreting architectural plans and specification
  • Proficiency in estimating software, Excel, and ERP/homebuilding systems (e.g., NewStar, BuildPro, or similar
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
